Hooker will skull drag the gators in Neyland this season. Love this kid.
We sure did have an unbelievable number of receivers running wide open down the field last year for an offense that is so simple. For those old enough to remember, in 1999 Tennessee outplayed, and should have beaten Florida. Alex Brown for Florida, who had five sacks in the game, later admitted that the Florida defense was able to read Tee Martin and basically knew what every play was going to be. Of course this was obvious to anyone watching the game except for the Tennessee coaching staff and Tee Martin.
I bring this up because of what Hooker says at the 55 second mark; "Mitchel is locking in on the signals". When we have opposing coaches stating (anonymously) that our offense is pretty simple, a quarterback that recognizes defensive reads is crucial.
Yup a cerebral QB is critical to our offense. For those old enough to remember, in 1999 Tennessee outplayed, and should have beaten Florida. Same with coaches. Heup is a leader. The previous dudes were NOTSky's the limit for us and him. Never underestimate the value and potential of a real true leader. It amazes me the amount of QB's in college that aren't really "leaders" and end up fizzling out or not getting the most out of themselves and their teams. We are lucky to have him. Looking farther down the line...Nico's got the flash and hype...but all of these recruits have to turn into elite leaders or they will never lead their teams to anything of note (aka Championships).
Hooker is a 24 year old 6th year senior. He is stepping up his leadership to a level we haven’t seen in years. Even more than Dobbs, who wasn’t vocal. For comparison, Peyton was still only 21 during his last year here.
