I agree that student tickets should be free. PJ I think it's great that you enjoy the Neyland experience and it is of great value, and as an aside, I agree with you most of the time. Eric what you and Freak as well as LV, Sab, etc... are doing in the recruiting forum is fantabulous and I definitely think your post here is valuable. I don't really think this is ALL about money. I think there are quite a few folks that are turned off by what's going on at the stadium. A number of people have posted on the topic of getting called out for standing up and cheering. Enough people that it's not some random just happening in one row or the like. I personally witnessed this myself...A twentysomething standing up and yelling Defense and an older couple sitting behind telling him to sit down. Culminating with twentysomething telling the woman, in so many words, to stand up and cheer or take your old fat...home! It was going on all around. Maybe this doesn't go on around the 30,40,50yd line or skybox sections, uhlol, I'll never know, but that's not a lot of fun. I realize the tickets for the Ohio game were cheap, but AU won't be like that...now if we lose, I'd say other than UGA, it'll be easy pickens the rest of the year. Then there's the Crompton factor. I have absolutely no desire to go listen to what is apparently happening in Neyland. If MH has a brain he should have JC's parents in a skybox making them as comfortable as possible. Just because you buy a ticket, doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want to this kids' parents and expect them not to jack your jaw. I don't want to be anywhere near that kind of speech. Infact, a real Vol fan would go get security and have them thrown out. Last year we were recruiting Josh Nunes, he didn't appreciate the booing. I'm not sayin he would've come here, but that certainly doesn't help the cause. Finally, what happened at the end of the year last season, well that's gonna take some time. It didn't get there overnight and a new coach isin't gonna fix it overnight. Sorry for the long post.

I know it to be fact. There were tons floating around outside the stadium on my way in right before kick off.

I'll confess. The fact is I have two children in Knoxville and this game would take me to Knoxville 4 weekends in a row thru the GA game. I chose not to go. Also, last years team made me realize at 54 that I can survive by not going to a home. Sad but true.

Also.I am going to Tuscalooser and The grove. So I feel that compensates to some degree.

Some people can't afford it, that's it

I surely hope that we can fill Neyland Stadium against Auburn. I just received (8pm, Tuesday) an email from UT Athletics with the information that "a limited number of tickets still remain" for the game this Saturday. Of course there won't be any wide swaths of empty seats as in the Ohio game, but it would be great if we had a good, old fashioned SELL OUT; not only for this game but for the game against Georgia next weekend, too.

I think some folks miss the point. A lot of fans, real fans, stood up last year and said enough is enough. It wasn't just Fulmer, watching a team completely quit on themselves, the vulgarity amongst fans in the stands, the lousy overpriced hotdogs, the unavailability of a carbonated soda, overpriced tickets, overpriced parking, it's all of it rolled together. Asking students to pay for tickets is one thing, but the rope a dope they've got to go through is ridiculous. I don't NEED to go to the stadium, I have VN! My last game, I could hardly watch the game for the fans yelling AT EACH OTHER. My wife got elbowed in the eye, not on purpose but because everyone in the not so cheap seats are packed together like sardines. Reading on VN about booing the players, ignorant fans yelling Crompton sucks in the direction of his parents, hearing that you STILL get yelled at for standing up and cheering for the team, which happened to me also...it's enough to keep me from wanting "the experience" even if I could get the ticket for free. I look forward to taking my son to a game in a couple of years, maybe by then some civility and common sense will have returned. BTW, since we have a lot of important recruits coming in for the game, don't boo the players...please.

Well said. For me, you can certainly substitute Bucs and Lightning for Vols in this post. But the signs are all around for the exact same scenario at the Swamp should the prominent wins decrease and the prominent losses increase (which history says it will). Sad, but true. The last juvenile outlet, pro and college sports, for this adult is rapidly deteriorating in economic and entertainment value.

65,000? That means that a third of the seats were empty. I have trouble believing that. I couldn't make it to the game, but from looking at it on tv, that doesn't seem accurate. I know 95,000 is inflated, but a 30,000 inflation is a very big stretch.

And what if Charley Pell had not been fired, cheated again, got caught again, and the program got the death penalty ? And what if the program had only been restarted ten years ago...with Jim Leavitt...or Bill Curry ?

I love the vols! I love going to our stadium... but honestly.. Whenever I go I get told to sit down for standing and cheering.. I usually pay atleast 60-70 per ticket so 140.00 .. I usually find a cheaper place to park.. buy food,drinks.. I can save money ,usually watch my high def tv and yell as loud as I want for free! not to mention I dont have to fight anyone for the bathroom,snacks.. heck I can have tailgate food and my "special lemonade" in my living room. I remember going to the games in the late 90's and there being no jumbo-tron"no fancy led ribbons.. no rivals,scout.. it was just about the game. the crowd was fierce... its sad really... But Its a combination to UT's admin charging people 70.00 per ticket.. and competition with the high def tv's ..

From the OP. I noticed more than 5 instances where our band was blaring rocky top while we were trying to run an offensive play, but was silent when opp's were on offense. Someone needs to tell the band leader that he is doing it wrong.

I think a lot of this goes back to Doug Dickey. The Dollar became more important than the fans. Oh they don't want to sell to the little man tickets to Fl, AL,Ga, but they want them to pick up the left over . Wyo, Oh, WKy , I think the chickens have come home to roost. Sell To Corp. america, Get the most you can get and to heck with the real fans who have been there Year after Year. Gouge, chock, squeeze all you can, Then ***** when he starts to resist. "He not a real fan" I've seen more games , been a Vol fan longer than a lot of you have been alive. Some little snot nose telling me what I should do and not do.You have no clue what it is to root for the orange when Bama has beat us 15 in a row. I was there I saw the Good ,the Bad. and the Ugly. If Tenn wants their fan then they should treat them like somebody rather than like a dollar sign. And if Tony Basilio doesn't like it, well dang I hate that. jmho

We've had the same seats since 1967. I used to go crazy. Now, I am older and have to save my voice for preaching on Sunday morning. Don't be so critical of older fans... we've more than paid for the right to clap instead of scream. You want to hear me yell? Come to church.

pretty sure parking is cheap in the Old City/Mkt Square and the shuttle is $3. As was stated before, tickets are going for well below face (even free) so they aren't outrageous. Food? Eat at McD's if the stadium crap is too expensive.

So even with the 400mi round trip you just spent about $70. Absolutely outrageous. Subtract the driving for people who live within an hr of Knoxville and you paid more for the ppv than it would have cost to watch in Neyland.

When people are on budgeted incomes, even $70 is alot.

lol why do some people seem like they are mad about people not going to the game?what people do with their own money is their buisness, id rather pay the power bill and watch the game on tv than go to it person and come home and sit in the dark lol

to the poster that said if crompton gave a performance as good as ohios band, we have 1 reciver that is a good route runner and that is quinten hancock (injured) , gearld jones ok route runner, denarius moore sub par route runner, teage getting there, nuke needs vast improvement, warren sometimes good sometimes dosent know where to go in a phone booth. CLK finaly addressed this today and i think it was about time. our TE's would only grade a C+ at best. i think it says alot when our 2 FRESHMAN RUNNING backs are 2 of the better route runners on the team, i think nuke and teage will get there, but gearld jones cant be making mistakes like running out of bounds like he did in the UF game and that is just 1 example. im behind jonathan crompton 100%. sam wyche says he can play QB so thats good enough for me.

dont know if its ben posted but it should be.

Now to Manvols Letter from yesterday.

'We are suppose to be some of the greatest fans in college football and our blood runs deep orange; unless it rains, to hot, bad opponent, or ____ (fill in the blank). No more than 65 k VOLS were at the game last Saturday night. That away so called VOL fans show your orange and white pride. Home games are precious; there are only 7 or 8 home games a year so unless there is a hurricane that stadium should be full. Our fans talk a big game but when it comes down to it most only show up when condition and opponents are optimal. When did it change? I went to my first game as 10 year old boy in 1979 and have sat through many a storms and bad opponent with Neyland stadium packed. Not anymore, I guess the blood only runs orange for “fans” when it’s convenient. Once the beloved VOLS could depend on the fans support but again not anymore, new blood only runs orange when it sunny and 82 and our opponent is one of the top 3 teams in the SEC. To those who went the game you really showed your football knowledge; You cheered louder for the Ohio band and our band playing that less than intimidating cheesy "how much is that doggie in the window" at half time. Are you kidding me? What’s next the kiss cam? Oh wait a minute we have that. Where are the T shirt cannons when you need one? Yes, the recruits will come here in droves with an atmosphere like last Saturday night! I don’t understand this new breed of fans who don’t know how or when to cheer either. When we are on D stand up make some noise its ok your diet coke, pizza, and M & M's will be there until we go on offense then you can sit back and enjoy your feast. Too add who are the non football educated “fans” trying to do the wave when we have the ball! Are you kidding me should I even have to explain why that is a football fauxpas? Sad all around effort by true VOL fans, what happen to Neyland stadium being one of the most intimidating places for opponents to play and what happen to a rock n’ home field advantage on a Saturday night?
Bryan Smith – VOL fan 24/7 not when its 82 degrees and sunny
Knoxville

please forward on

Man Vol'

I fully understand any UT Fan not going to the games as long as Crompton is the starting QB. It just isn't fair to pay top $$ for tickets to watch a QB who never learns fro his mistakes, and refuses to take the blame for an inept offense.

Once Crompton is gone a lot of excitment will come back to UT Football.

The student section has to set the tone. If they are going nuts the whole time, the rest of the stadium will follow suit. And if some old curmudgeon with his old wrinkled balls raises an objection to you making noise...simply turn around and politely remind him that he probably only has a handful of years left on this earth, and that he should therefore cheer for his team at least one last time before he kicks off.

I was at the game last Saturday, & the reason the crowd stood & cheered for the Ohio band was because they sounded so much better & had an more exciting show (though I did enjoy Miss Patti Paige). The band gets smaller every year, & there are severe recruiting problems in the music dept. (I know that for a fact). Also, the huge void in the STUDENT SECTION underlines the need to re-think ticket policy to that group.
GO VOLS!

Someone just told me that only 3000 people ordered the pay per view for this game. Is that true? I don't care who the opponent is, I can't imagine not watching Tennessee play if I have the chance.
