Musical hot takes

listening to music live in a big venue is a much worse experience than listening to the released product.
I wouldn't trade my concert experiences for anything, but those experiences can be brutal depending on the band, the venue, and/or the crowd. I still love live music, but these days I am happy to listen to live albums and watch concerts on YouTube.

Guns N Roses is overrated AF! They have coasted for years off of that debut album that was so highly regarded, and have never produced anything since then nearly as good.

Also, Motley Crue's best/heaviest album is their self-titled album with John Corabi. I think Vince Neil is a twerp and a terrible singer!

Add Dylan, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen

I don't mind Young, but agree about Dylan and Springsteen. I enjoy the covers of Dylans songs more than the originals. I could never get into Springsteen, and prefer Seger for that kind of music.

Those are my hot takes.

I absolutely despise what I would categorize as "Heartland Rock". John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, John Fogerty, Jackson Browne, some of Tom Petty's music, etc.

It's kind of similar to a football game. Going to a football game, especially at a venue like Neyland, is quite an experience. However, if you just "want to watch the game," it's actually better to watch it on TV. You see more of what happens, can follow the action better, pick up on details you'll miss in the stadium, etc. Being at the game is more about being part of a large crowd, making noise, tailgating, etc.

If you actually want to just "listen to the music," then it's actually a better experience to put headphones on and listen to it.

There are obviously many factors to a good live show, sound/mix, the crowd, the band being off or on among them. But to say it’s always a better experience to ‘listen to the music’ with headphones I don’t agree with. Granted, I have and still do see a lot of live music.

I’ve listened to Gimme Shelter 1000s of times in my life, but nothing better than the first time I saw it performed live in 1989.

The Avett Brothers music cannot be fully appreciated by listening at home, seeing them live elevates their music. Same with the Dead, though you will disagree with that.

I have been to plenty of shows where it would have been better to listen at home as you said, but also plenty of shows where the music was better live.

And of course there are a number of concerts that were so bad I wish I had skipped them, including some Dead shows. 😀

Yeah, nothing wrong with going to a concert. I'd love to see certain bands live, but I like to relax and like you said, listen to the music and enjoy the experience that way more than anything...

Also,as far as Dylan, I've always seen him as a great songwriter more than anything else but I see why people enjoy his music. My stepfather loves his music...Maybe it's a generational thing.

I'm probably the old man yelling at clouds, but most of today's music is terrible, especially rap. Mastering is terrible, no soul, all digital and overcompressed. Most "rappers" are boring and have no energy unlike the 80s-90s.

Welcome To The Numb is my favorite song on that album.

The Grateful Dead is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Not denying the impact/influence, but they just aren't good.
Have you ever heard what Deadheads say about the band when they aren't high?

"Jeez, this band sucks!"

(That attempt at a joke is dedicated to my fraternity brother, Riz, who became a Deadhead after graduation. Go figure, lol)

I actually like Dead and Company much more, with JM on lead. He's an amazing guitarist and has a better voice than Garcia.

So what are some of your musical "hot takes"? So in case somebody doesnt know, hot take means give me an unpopular music related opinion that is a hill you will die on.

Here's one of mine. If Michael Jackson's album "Bad" had followed Off The Wall instead of Thriller, it would be just as highly regarded today.

My hot take
