There is more to a coach hire than just a name and who we like at another school. Hamilton needs to make the right hire not just the most high profile one.

The right hire at this point is the most decent one he can make the fastest. If this draws out more than a week it could get ugly this close to NSD.

Isn't this the same thing we went through last year? "Gotta sign a coach fast....NSD coming up". Screw NSD and this year's class. How bout we make the right choice and get a coach with a little longevity this time. Muschamp comes here and how long do we have him...only until Brown retires at Texas?

we had a full-blown coaching search. not much has changed. unless we can pull Tony Dungy, I don't see us making a huge hire outside of guys like Patterson and Muschamp. And those guys are great coaches. We just lost the best recruiting staff in the country. Nothing can replace that outside of a miracle....it sucks, but it's not bigger than this team and this school. We will always be Tennessee!

Things are quite a bit more dire this time around. If we don't get quality some O-linemen/D-linemen/LBs here in this class we will be playing walkons and 2* the next 3-4 years.

Who cares if it's Muschamp or my dead uncle Charles.

Take cover, the sky really is falling this time.

I can't see Muschamp leaving Texas. Texas is in the process of adding on to their stadium to be the largest in the US, something like 112,000. Plus Texas, right now, doesn't have the NCAA all over them like we do. He'd be crazy to leave Austin.

He can leave and then return when Brown retires. I think $2M more a year would be reason to leave. Plus, we're not a cow college in the Alabama plains. I don't like it, b/c I see him easily taking off if another opportunity arises (Texas, UGA). He's probably my 4th or 5th choice. I bet you Hamilton & co ups the buyout this time.

People are crazy if they think Muschamp doesn't have the mentality or ability to be a head coach. recruits like him

EXACTLY! Muschamp is personally my first choice as a hire. He will be a fine coach! Rumor is he is not happy with Mack Brown's new deal, and doesn't want to be head-coach-in-waiting forever. ESPN's Chris Low, who is in Knoxville, also reported he was Tennessee's #1 choice per Sportscenter. Moreover, folks at GatorCountry.com, as listed above, are also convinced he will be our next coach! If this is all true, I applaud Mike Hamilton's decision and his quick action!

I think...

1.) Will Muschamp (trust me, he'll leave if the money is there and plus hes a southern boy)
2.) Peterson (a Proven winner, gets the most outta talent, always prepared and Zero mistakes every game)
3.) Trooper Taylor (We all know he loves Tennessee, he can recruit with the best of them, If people could get over the race card, itd be great)
4.) Wittingham (another proven winner, knows how to recruit top talent in a USC ridden area)
5.) Lane Kif... Wait never mind

Forget about Chuckie, hes not coming.
Forget about Dungy, hes too perfect in every way.

Weigh in... Please update every hour about where Mike Hammy is and what the texas sits say abt CWM

Educate me, please.
Why are so many people anti-Muschamp?
His resume is pretty impressive, although Texas' D didn't impress me all that much this year.

And everyone's talking about a press conference. People don't hold press conferences to say "no, thanks." They pull a Jeff Fisher or a Jack Del Rio and say "no" quietly to the Associated Press.

And forgive me, please. I'm shooting from the hip because my head is spinning. Would this be crazy idea?
Muschamp as HC and Cutcliffe as OC?
I mean it sounds crazy, but Cutcliffe did decently as OC in 2007. Any possibility?

Last year the process started in November. That was 2 1/2 months before signing day. This time we have 3 weeks. I guess there is only so much you can do to salvage this class. You have a good point. I just don't want to miss completely with this class.

First off, NO ONE would leave TENNESSEE for UGA!!!! I can see where your coming from, but right now in the short-term we need to make a "splash" hire. Muschamp is that hire.

IMO, this all started going down midday on Tuesday. One of the ESPN guys is/was in Orlando at AFCA conference and tried to get a word with Kiffin, unsure what they were wanting to ask him. He told him he didn't have time at the moment and hurried off. Soon thereafter, same ESPN talking head saw Kiffin huddled up with his agent. I don't think they were working on a contract restructure proposal for Hamilton to peruse at that time. I personally would like to see Muschamp get the job. I don't think he has a specific loyalty to Texas to replace Brown, that was a carrot to help retain him last year. Maybe he didn't want the Auburn job because he knew how badly the Regents at Auburn had threw it in Tubberville. Who knows, but I don't think it will happen tomorrow. Of course, midday today, Jack Del Rio was the leading candidate at USC, then by sundown it's Traitor Lane's job and UT is hung out to dry.

Yeah, we can forget about the next couple of years unless we pull something out of our ass! More than likely it's gonna take a while after pulling this knife out of our backs.

Retaining Chaney as OC is not such a bad deal.
