All of this recruiting buzz got me thinking about our recruitment of a coach last year. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy with Derek Dooley and staff, but doesn't it make you PO'ed that Muschamp turned us down flat out, and then inked to coach Florida, pretty much a slap in the face to our program if you ask me. I will be particularly elated WHEN we beat the snot out of them next year because of this fact.

The guy grew up in Gainesville, and let's be real....the way things are right now Florida is a much better job than UT. Texas having such a bad season plays a role as well.

i read an article that he wanted an out clause where he could leave for uga or texas with no penalties if offered one of the jobs and we wouldn't allow it in his contract

He thought he would be the HC at Texas this year. The season went to crap and he saw the writing on the wall and got out. Timing really IMO.

I believe we are better off with Dooley. Muschamp doesn't have the "total package" like Dooley does. I'm sure that Muschamp will be successful because of what Meyer and Spurrier were able to do but recruiting is pretty easy in Florida. It's good to see FSU turning it around and hopefully Miami will do the same. It's rare that all 3 programs are on top at the same time. This opens the door for Tennessee, GA, and SC to be more competitive with Florida and begin to put some beat downs on them in the future.

Taking the Tennessee job instead of staying at Texas last year would have been stupid. Getting Tennessee competitive again would take longer than it would have to get the Texas job, and that's if he was good enough to fix Tennessee at all. Florida can be fixed quickly if he's good.

Either way, I think he's a clown. Didn't he accidentally say Georgia instead of Florida at his opening press conference?

Maybe one day we'll have a coach that deems our program their "dream job"
For UT to be the 'dream job,' they probably have to grow up in the area. However, there are plenty of coaches that would take this job and not look to go somewhere else. Kiffin did it, but it doesn't mean UT is a stepping stone.

We have that guy. Dooley certainly looks at UT as one of his dream jobs, along with several other SEC schools.

I agree: I believe CDD is very content here and very happy to be our head coach. He is working his tail off and we will see the fruits of his labor this fall and in 2012

Funny how now he is a clown, but so many Vol fans wanted him last year.

It's history boys. He lived in Florida for 10 years, more specifically in Gainesville about 5 miles from the stadium..

The fact is Florida is a better job than Tennessee, and most level-headed Vol fans completely understand this concept.

No, it doesn't piss me off because why would he come here? He has no ties here, the rebuilding job here is a huge mountain the climb, and who wouldn't want to coach at Florida. Anyone who thinks it is a "slap in the face" needs to just think about the situation a little more. Would be different if it were someone with great ties here.

It's because Florida is a much easier place to recruit. This is becoming a hot topic for every coach taking a new job...Can I pull in big time talent, facilities, support etc. However, we do have the best facilities and support, but it isn't easy recruiting in Tennessee with the little talent

If it weren't for Muschamp, we wouldn't have Dooley. When MH contacted CWM about the job and was turned down, CWM referred MH to CDD. I remember reading this last year during the process, but don't have a link.

A lot of folks did not want Mushchamp last year, so keep your bob ross generalization brush strokes to ya self.

But alot did.

I love the fact you dropped a Bob Ross reference though. he had sweet hair.

I do not get offended about that type of situation. They change from year to year. The SEC east will be brutal again real soon with the UT, UGA, UF, and USCjr all having good teams. Should be fun to watch.
