My guess is that it is personal. Pruitt was supposedly mean to Mark Richt when they were both at Georgia, and Murray is a big Richt guy.Not sure why he got the red azz for UT... I have much more confidence in what is going on inside the program this year. Talent is there, coaching is there... good things happen when the two meet.
I don't know what schedule you're looking at, but 2-6 after 8 games is totally in the realm of possibility. We are likely to be favored in only 2 of the first 8 games. The Florida game I think is a toss-up.Tennessee is not going to start 2-6 that is a total bullsh*t prediction. Tennessee is going to be 4-4 after 8 games at the worst.
The Vols is gonna be just fine this year. We were bad last year and all the folks that think they are important wanna jump on the "beat up the Vols" bandwagon! Alot folks like to kick a man when he is down but the Vols "aint" down not any more! Watch all those ESPN types on the SEC start wooing the Vols when we start upsettin a few teams. Its a comin, and its gonna feel real good watchin those weenies eat crow!!The hell with those uga announcer pieces of garbage. It’s funny how they are always the most negative against all things Tennessee. No one expects the Vols to set the world on fire this year, but these guys expect it to be a dumpster fire before it even starts.
I think Murray's prediction can be discounted because of his anti Jeremy Pruitt bias and his hatred of Tennessee overall. These idiots in the Sports Media will be very surprised when Tennessee wins 7-8 games. When that happens however they will probably say the SEC East is very weak this season instead of giving credit to Coach Pruitt and his staff. I can't wait to see how they react when Tennessee is 8-4 after the Vanderbilt game and is waiting for a good Bowl invitationI don't know what schedule you're looking at, but 2-6 after 8 games is totally in the realm of possibility. I think Murray does have a personal beef with Pruitt (even though they weren't even at Georgia at the same time), and he's wrong when he says that Tennessee doesn't have much talent (there is talent on this team, it has underachieved or been hurt), but his take that we could start 2-6 is perfectly reasonable.
100% correctFrankly, if Murray and Pollack were saying good things about us I'd be more concerned.
I don't know if Pruitt will be a success or not, but I do know that Murray + Pollack say nasty things about UT because they hate UT. They are incapable of being impartial. It's pretty blatantly obvious, too. Mind you, Mark Richt and Kirby Smart were also coordinators who became first-time head coaches at Georgia, so the idea that Pruitt isn't "cut out to be a head coach" simply because he hasn't been one yet is particularly stupid coming from a Georgia guy.
That right there is a real good point!Frankly, if Murray and Pollack were saying good things about us I'd be more concerned.

Just because somebody has an ulterior motive for saying something doesn't mean what they are saying isn't true or ridiculous. It gives reason to look into what they are saying even deeper, but it doesn't automatically mean they are wrong.I think Murray's prediction can be discounted because of his anti Jeremy Pruitt bias and his hatred of Tennessee overall. Personally i think the opinion of a person with an ulterior motive doesn't hold much weight when they're completely biased against the team or person they are discussing.Just because somebody has an ulterior motive for saying something doesn't mean what they are saying isn't true or ridiculous. It gives reason to look into what they are saying even deeper, but it doesn't automatically mean they are wrong.
There are only 2 definite wins in our first 8 games. The other six games range from a toss-up (Florida), to games where we have a shot but will be a clear underdog (vs. West Virginia, @ South Carolina), to games we have little if any chance to win (@ Georgia, @ Auburn, Alabama). Murray is saying he expects us to lose the games where we are a clear underdog, along with the 50/50 game. I hope he's wrong too, but it isn't an absurd opinion, even if he has a personal beef with Pruitt.
I agree with Elvis that we win, but that score...Elvis takes a lot of strong “medicine”Elvis Presley predicts 17-10 Win over West Virginia boys!
I went squirrel huntin’ yesterday and parked next to a tree,
When a ghostly figure with a curled up lip, plopped down beside me
He said Cletus, them analyst type sayin’ the Vols cant beat them mountaineers
But they don’t know, what lies inside of Pruitt’s Volunteers
He got into a karate stance and pointed to the sky
He then said “hubba hubba” and he looked me in the eye
He twanged on his guitar strangs and said Cletus tell all your friends
That the Vols gonna beat them West Virginia boys…….. 17-10!
Go Vols!!!
He also said Daniel Bituli has a big game!
That's a great point. I think implicitly in these comments he's trying to draw a connection between a potential 2-6 start and his belief Pruitt isn't cut out to be a head coach. We could start 2 and 6 and it have nothing to do with Pruitt's ability to coach. Very tough schedule everyone is ranked except Florida and the two we should definitely win. My hope is we'll start 4 and 0 but I acknowledge we could be 2 and 6 mainly because of our schedule.
We were the worst team in the SEC last season, and have a first part of the season that has a nasty 5-game gauntlet, plus we open with a top-25 team. A new coaching staff implementing new schemes on both sides of the ball, and a perception outside of Knoxville that the team has very little SEC-level talent. If I was on the outside looking in, 2-6 would be a safe pick when looking at the first 8 games of our schedule, and after watching us last season.
So apparently proving that he really doesn't know anything about the Vols talent, just going on our record from last year. Aaron Murray again thinks we suck, and Pruitt isn't the guy but "a" guy and we have no talent. I guess it's just not possible for some of these talking heads to do detailed into why we were 4-8 and to also take a look at our talent vs coaches developing talent. I'm starting to regret my career choice. It seems just going on TV and talking Chiz with no research is worth way more money.
Aaron Murray Sounds Off on Jeremy Pruitt Again | Rocky Top Insider
"
Murray had a roundtable discussion with other CBS analysts on a segment called Inside College Football where they were discussing first-year head coaches who could struggle in 2018. The discussion started by looking at Herm Edwards at Arizona State, but then Aaron Murray shared his thoughts on Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee.
“I don’t think he’s inheriting a very good football team talent-wise,” Murray stated. “And then you just look at their schedule … Realistically, in my mind, this team can be 2-6 a little more than half way through the season. You start losing some ball games, people start questioning the new regime."
“Every new head coach has a lot to prove,” Murray explained. “It’s a different ball game, and we talk about with players too: Being ‘a guy’ or being ‘the guy’ is two completely different things for coaches and players.”
Murray claims that the Vols don’t have much talent this year, but we looked at both UT’s and Florida’s rosters yesterday and saw that the Vols actually have more overall talent than the Gators heading into the 2018 season. Tennessee currently has 34 players on their roster who were rated as four-stars or better according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Yet most in the national and regional media are predicting much more success for Florida this year than for Tennessee.
Here's to whooping WVU and Florida to start 4-0 and seeing that azzhat eat some crow.
Frankly, if Murray and Pollack were saying good things about us I'd be more concerned.
