Not one passenger on that plane stood up and defended their fellow Murican and paying passenger on that Chicago to Louisville flight. And to be honest, I'm not sure if I would have reacted any differently. But one of the things that was brought to my attention today was how grown men and women just allowed the goons to just manhandle a guy off a plane and not move a muscle.

At what point do Muricans eventually reach the breaking point? I mean, think about what happened before all of this. They were herded through the TSA molestation line where their bodies and belongings are scanned and fondled, then hearded to the gate to wait for their flight for a few hours to only be told that 4 of them had to give up their seats. Then they board the plane and are still threatened with loosing their seat on the plane.

And when it is all said and done, they still leave late because United has to clean up the bloody mess that was left behind after their fiasco with the passenger, so the Muricans ended up losing their seats (or losing time) anyways. So what did they really gain in the end?

The other passengers did all that they could do without causing trouble for themselves. They kept their seats and filmed away. Worth noting that those clowns who dragged that guy down the aisle were basically impersonating police officers while wearing jackets that said "Police". Presumably because they know that most people will immediately comply with instructions from a police officer but will sometimes give a security doofus some lip. I'm sure that is one of many things wrong here that will be cited in the law suit.

Fixed

I've seen the Chris Rock video. If the police have to drag you off a plane, a butt-whoopin's coming with it. It's best to just comply and sort it all out later. It sucks, it's horribly inconvenient, it ticks you off, but they're the authority.

(1) I would have figured that the passenger did something more than just not want to give up his seat, hence the beat-down. So, no, I wouldn't have done jack **** to interfere... but I would have taped it with my cell phone and sold the footage to the highest bidder;

(2) The passenger - obviously - should have known karate, and been able to defend himself; and

(3) The passenger hit paydirt. Broken nose, two teeth knocked out, sinus problems, blood, mental trauma. The settlement will be multiple 7-figures.

Muricans fly by choice and accept all the TSA gestapo tactics which come with air travel.

Dr Dude was facing inconvenience which is small potatoes in the grand scheme.

Athoritiesdoing wrong are confronted everyday; we just dont know about it.

Sheep turn into bulls all the time. Stand up against abuse of power. Call out authorities acting badly. Band together to help others who are treated unfairly. This behavior rarely, if ever goes viral.

That's because it's not an issue of viral proportions. What you are describing (authorities behaving badly) is the exception, not the norm.

I had no intention of slighting the vast majority of authority figures who are professional in every sense of the word. My thought is even more basic than viral proportionality. Basically, good news doesn't travel.

I doubt the dude gets a penny from United if they choose to fight it and not settle, maybe the airport cops but I doubt that also.

United was well within their rights to have him removed, remember that that airplane is private property.

I think it will settle out of court and UA will be writing a big fat check. Whether they were within their rights or not they handled about as badly as they could and they’ve admitted wrong doing with their public apology.

CEO Oscar Munoz said himself the man had not posed a problem until he was asked to leave the plane to make room for crew. He went on to say, I continue to be disturbed by what happened on this flight and I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard. No one should ever be mistreated this way. "I want you to know that we take full responsibility and we will work to make it right. It's never too late to do the right thing. I have committed to our customers and our employees that we are going to fix what's broken so this never happens again.

If Dao’s attorney can’t turn that into an admission of wrong doing and a huge settlement for his client he should be sued for incompetence and disbarred.

I can see UA settling, jurys can be stupid and swayed by emotion. But reality is all UA did was enforce it's carriage contract, the man was the one in violation. UA could and should file suit against him.

The only party, outside of the passenger in the wrong IMO were the police.

Yeah, I'm not really arguing if what UA did was legal or stated in the fine print. I just think it's going to be more costly for them to fight it and they'll probably do whatever they can to just make it go away.
