*****Multiple sources confirm Jeremy Pruitt is next Tennessee Head Coach

I’m not sure why a coach would do this in his first HC gig with early signing period. He’s pretty much screwing himself by not transitioning immediately and getting his staff in place to hit the recruiting trail.

Who says he isn't?

The first Bama practice is tentatively scheduled for Dec 15 and Early Signing day is Dec 20.

Now we don't know what Pruitt is planning to do, we don't even know if he will stay through the playoffs yet. But if he does then I'm certain he won't be able to attend every practice, but Bama has a slew of assistants that can fill in.

As for finding assistants, Pruitt will have a short list but thankfully he doesn't have to do all the leg work there himself. He can have Fulmer help him out there and honestly would be foolish not to.

How much loyalty can a life long bama boy have for Tennessee? Is he just a hired gun until something else?

Not sure I like the part about him remaining with Bama unitl Jan....I guess we're just tapping out on the 2018 class

He'll be going out there recruiting just like Smart did for Georgia when he stayed on through January with Alabama.

But now he'll be going to recruits saying "Hey, I've got a team in the playoffs so you can see what I can do. But you can also look at these NC Rings, I want to add put a Tennessee T on these and I want you to help me there. After all, Tennessee is wide open, you can start as a freshman even."

Because he sabotaged Georgia and Florida State when he joined their staff?

He was a DC and for only a couple years. No one is saying sabatage. I'm wondering how long he stays . Will we be searching again in 4 or 5 years. The crazy train has to stop.

I will say one positive thing: at the very least I don't have to listen to another yankee accented coach rounding off his g's in a forced manner trying to fit in.

We can't predict the future. But if he leaves for Bama in a few years then its because Bama wants him because we are doing something right.

But worrying about the next coaching search is ludicrous right now. Its like worrying about whether or not the world will end next tuesday.

We have our coach, lets worry about getting a good recruiting class then a good spring practice regimen, then a good 2018 season.

Its interesting to point out that the average tenure of an SEC football coach is about 4 years. Tennessee and Florida have the highest coach tenure of 5.1 years. Alabama's is 4.4. So, if Pruitt is successful and we keep him for 5 years, that's about average.:)

I'm surprised to see comments about him wanting to sabotage the program and being loyal to bama.. seriously?? Do people actually believe this? It's his JOB... to be a HC you want to compete..

Side note, ESPN Radio just said it was announced.

If you look at what I quoted you’ll see my response was to ESPN saying he’s staying at Bama through the playoffs. I’m glad you have it all figured out though. 👍🏻

This is a good hire. Saban's coaching staffs have excellent histories of doing very good when they become head coaches. That of course doesn't necessitate that Pruitt will be good, but I'm hopeful that he's just what we need to get this ship back out of the harbor. It seems to me that so many people were so dead-set on hiring Gruden that they weren't going to be happy with anyone else even though there's no guarantee Gruden would have been able to transition his coaching style to the college level. There's always a level of doubt with any coach that a new program hires. The fact is, Pruitt has proven himself as a dang good DC under perhaps the greatest coach in college football. That's a chance I can get behind as a fan. What Pruitt needs now is the fan support.

Derek Dooley says HI. :thud:

Cutcliffe was a bama man, people forget that. If he wins here he will love it. If they try to hire him back, it will mean we are on top and Fulmer indeed can make a good hire. Time will tell.

The more I hear, the better I like this new coach and staff. Proof is on the field in the fall, wins and losses. But, I wanted better focus, discipline, physicality, blowing people off the line, keeping the other team less than 250 yards offense and winning games. This should do that.

To all you people freaking out over the lack of name recognition here, he has won nattys as DC at two different places. That is no coincidence. Period. Bring on an excellent oc and some recruiters and shiz son, we are back. As good a defensive mind as Schiano minus the wishy washy did he or didn't he around the Sandusky scandal. Also he is not known as the worst head coach in the history of the NFL either. I would be shocked if our D is not excellent next year. Then again, I was socked when the Shoopfense didn't work, so we will see. I am definitely not disappointed with this hire.

Reserving judgement till I see the body of work by Pruitt. He has stepped into a tough situation and I wish him luck. Having said that, I think Fulmer may have done as well as anyone could after the Haslam/Currie false start and mishandling of the amateur hour coaching search. Had it not been for them, we probably could’ve had just about anyone we wanted. Had it not been for Fulmer, we would still see no sign of stability.

Skeptics may attempt to dismiss Pruitt’s success at Alabama as a product of riding Saban’s coattails and the assemblage of talent compiled there. However, Pruitt has orchestrated defenses just as statistically dominant at Georgia and, especially, Florida State. That simply does not occur by accident. I believe that this hire would meet with the ultimate stamp of Tennessee approval, that of Neyland himself.
