Lame tried to turn us into USC South. Fapizzled on our traditions. That above anything else is the reason that POS better not be our coach.

Mullen ... meh... not the impact I want. We need big time. Mullen feels like a bologna sammich

A bologna sandwich sure is good when you haven't eaten for a decade.

Kiffin wants to come back home. He knows he screwed up and I think he would do just about anything for a second chance.

This ain't home for Kiffin and you know it. You are just saying this crap to get a rise outta me aren't you? If he were to get hired I will make a killing selling eggs and tomatoes for the Vol Walk.

Something I wrote after reading an article about Kelly, Frost going elsewhere, Mullen staying put and Gruden saying no...

What the UCLA job opening means for Tennessee - Rocky Top Talk

Hate to say it, but if all of his worries pan out, Kiffin is the guy. I don’t like him leaving FAU so early but let’s face it, he did in one season return FAU (so far) to the top of its conference. He could promote someone within his staff and leave that staff there and come here. I think his departure hurt this program more than anything. Who would have ever thought we had a program that any coach would walk away from for any program in one year after almost beating Bama to. Since then, it’s always been a B list of coaches and if this writer’s worries pan out, there are very few left that I would put on an A list. If Mullen isn’t coming here, neither is Patterson. Albeit we do have a different AD going for us and from what I hear much more financial willingness. Still, you have to look at people that want to come here and Kiffin is wooing us. We may need to swallow our pride. He has swallowed his only as much as I would hope for him too and may be the last of available coaches that are willing to come here that belong on an A list. He may be the most willing. The good news is that he may be the most capable and he is young enough to stay here for a long time. What a storyline, a coach who erased the stain on a school and his own reputation while restoring a program to national prominence meanwhile dawgstomping and elephant herding his former coworker and mentor respectably (Kirby and Saban). Boy, Fulmer would be the ultimate role model for forgiveness by not only accepting and supporting Currie but also Kiffin. Kiffin and Currie reunited? I’m sure Currie felt that burn too. Insert edit, Kiffin’s son was named Knox.
This would be such a good story if it all panned out. I wasn’t for Kiffin before with the list we “had”, but it makes a lot of sense and there are so many stories here that were once bad that could become good. The media would love it. Our fans would love having an offense again and I bet you anything Kiffin retains shoop and that shoopfense performs because they aren’t on the field all game long.

There is nothing good to come from Kiffin being back at Tennessee. If this is the best we can do, they can level that stadium and use it for a sanitary landfill. You need to stay in Vegas and attend every outdoor concert from now on.

Freshwater’s head coaching resume is average at best. Mullen has achieved more at a dumpster program than any coach that preceded him at that school. Mullen and it’s not even close.

This.

I still am not getting the fascination with the guy that couldn't win with USC talent.

Let's say Mullen says no, Kiffin and Gruden are not coming,
can this fanbase unite and support whoever we get or are we a divided fanbase for another five years?

Lane Kiffin would be an embarrassment. Besides being a complete ass, he couldn't even win big with Carrol's players. Mullen is a good head coach and a great QB developer. Mullen could win an east title every 3 years. Kiffin would have us under NCAA sanctions in no time.

How do you define winning big? Kiffin finished 10-2 tied for 1st in the PAC-12 South in his second year at USC, already down 10 scholarships. Will probably end up with a 10 win season this year, after the team went 3-9 the prior year. Seems that Kiffin can win with or without talent.

Kiffin is every bit the QB developer that Mullen is also. Yes, Mullen did a great job with Prescott and now Fitzgerald, but he coached Tebow for 4 years and the kid could still not read a defense. No knock on Tebow, he was a hell of a winner, but that was a RB playing QB that did not progress in his pass development under Mullen. Kiffin on the other hand in his one year at Tennessee took a kid that most fans were ready to chase out of town and got the kid drafted.

The talk of Kiffin having the Vols under sanctions is complete nonsense. Kiffin has been a head coach for 6 seasons (including his shortened final year at USC) and has not faced any major sanctions. The most trouble he got into was his one year at Tennessee, when small common infractions were blown out of proportion in the NCAA's attempt to oust Bruce Pearl.

With that said is Lane Kiffin my first choice? Hell no, but he is a lot more likely to win big here then a lot of the other names being floated including Mullen.

I'm not disputing Kiffin's offensive creativity, QB development track-record nor his ability to manage a game offensively as well as make adjustments (and he knows more about football than I do)....

...but his play calling when at UT playing UCLA in Neyland from within the 10 yard line trying to score was a real head-scratcher. He ran Hardesty 3-4 straight times into the TEETH of a very good UCLA's defensive line and was stuffed. I think he had it first down inside the 5. That was very odd to me.

To me, Kiffin was like a carnival coming to town. I was bored before, then not interested in the carnival. Then I was entertained, glad to see a few good wins, and amazed at the hard fought loss to bammer. I thought usc might offer, that Kifin could not leave after all the hype of the first year, but would not turn down his dream job with a two million dollar pay raise. Besides nobody, who does that? So I never suffered the jilted syndrome. Question is about now. How good a head coach would he be and how much embarrassment would he create? The guy spent what, three years with saban? You cannot tell me that an intelligent man does not learn from that experience.

I wonder if Kiffin, through his agent, has expressed interest in this job. I'd love to the know the answer. I value /most/ of UT's traditions--but this idea that the team has to keep reciting Neyland's maxims is beyond silly. If I were the coach at UT, I'd put them on the wall and leave it at that. They don't need to be recited.

If we end up with either, I am willing to support firing our new AD. The fact this is in the realm of discussion is just sad.
