And we would have been MUCH better off if we did. The Gators have four 10 win seasons since Meyer left. Dan Mullen owns 2 of them, and this after taking over a program that was 4-7 the year prior to his arrival. If they were playing a standard schedule in 2020, he would likely have won 10 games again. All the while, Cornbread was cheating to bring recruits in and he still couldn't win football games.
UF is down this year, but they lost a ton of talent to the NFL. And despite what looney Florida fans want to believe, they are not on UGA and Bama's level to be able to lose several high end players to the draft and be able to keep the program running without a hitch. And yet, they have 3 losses of a 7 points or less. A little better luck, and they are 7-1 instead of 4-4. They will likely still end the year 8-4, which isn't terrible on a down year.
Mullen is a good coach. He has his warts, but the best thing for TN football would be for UF to get trigger happy and fire him. The likelihood of them hiring a better coach is slim to none.
