Was thinking about a new movement. Make Tennessee Orange Again. Fight off all this grey and black stuff. Re-establish "Big Orange" and "Big Orange Country" as the phrases of choice. Rebel and protest against the overreaching capitalist programs by the athletic department. Hang pictures of Ray Mears everywhere (the founding father of several Big Orange traditions). Do you think it would get any followers?

No.
But while we are at it, why not add a fight against the forward pass, running QBs, and modern-day helmets? Orange leather helmets or shudder the program!!

If it were so unpopular the NFL teams wouldn't be doing it (see midnight mode). Dark mode is a huge success in its purposes - selling merch and creating atmosphere. It's one of the ways the program is funded.

You're still allowed to buy all the orange gear you can afford. No need to tell others how to dress

It would be Great to get rid of the black uniform for sure. Black has Never been a part of Tennessee. But it will never happen, they have to pamper to the players. We might as well be called the Big Orange, Black and Grey. I love the solid Orange or Orange and White , but I guess I'm in the minority

You would prefer they cater to a small number of fans?

The debate about uniforms will last till the end of time. The decision to have alternate uniforms is based on several things and its always going to cater to what makes the most money along with what the players want. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but these alternate uniforms are very popular and are not going anywhere any time soon.

Black has Never been a part of Tennessee.
Categorically false:

Uniforms, Football
The first football uniforms (1892) were put together by the individual players, with many variations, but generally consisted of a
black pullover jersey with a sleeveless, buttoned overvest upon which were a “U” and a “T” to the right and left of the opening. In 1902 the overvest was discontinued. Pants were gray. In 1920 players sewed padding into their pants and wore elbow pads. In 1921 the team wore black jerseys with white numbers.

Orange (wool) jerseys, with
black numbers on the back, were first worn on September 23, 1922 (Tennessee 50, Emory & Henry 0). In 1935 the jerseys were white with orange stripes on the sleeves, but with General Neyland’s return in 1936, the orange jerseys also returned and included white numbers on the front, for the first time, as well as on the back. In 1963 the team wore orange jerseys with black numerals and black piping. The 1963 helmets had black numerals, replacing the orange numbers of the previous year.

This discussion pops up occassionally. There have been posts of our uniform design and color scheme going back over 120 years. Black has been part of our color scheme multiple times.

I stand corrected.

I like the traditional look but recognize that we need to appeal to the younger demographic…I’d hire fashion designers and challenge them to design jerseys so cool that every young person in the country would want to wear one…

I admit orange is my favorite, its in my blood, but the dark mode with the black helmet looks absolutely incredible. the orange accessories even makes it better.
