Just wanted to say that I was impressed with the demeanor of the MSU fans....they were very restrained after the loss and I didn't hear any badmouthing of TN from any MSU fans and I know they were upset at losing because they played well. It was just a refreshing change from some games like an LSU or BAMA game. ALSO, we better be prepared for BAMA because this is the game they want to win!!! I think they will come out in the beginning with big plays to knock us back on our heels....AND their biggest weapon is the 4TH Quarter...they are the luckiest team I've ever seen in the 4th quarter. I know if we play like we did in the GA game, we can win but we MUST be well prepared...they are planning on making a statement and the fans will be NASTY, even more so than normal. GO VOLS!!! Great game at MSU!

I was at the game also and the fans were very nice and right down friendly. There was a couple behind me (MS. fans) that stated that TN must have brought the whole state with them. Some other MS fans were talking about how many TN fans were at the game and that there had never been that many fans from the other team there, and how dedicated TN fans are to their team. The stadium was completely sold out, which rarely happens. It is great to be a TN fan. GO VOLS.

I jsut talked to a long time friend in N. Central TN....his goes to MSU and daughter to UT. They had tickets in upper W. section and (as lady vol said in another thread) the whole section was orange.
After the game they strolled thru tailgaters section and said they had never been met with such hospitality...offers of food..adult beverages...sit and chatt.
How refressing it was to hear!!!!

I'll say this too. The wife and I stayed in Tupelo, so we drove over to Ole Miss on Friday. I know everyone says that Ole Miss has the nicest campus in the SEC, but I don't even think they have the nicest in Mississippi.

Mississippi St's campus is very pretty. They have done very well updating the campus, one of the SEC's oldest.

Well we all had a GREAT time! It was my daughter's first game and she had a Power T tattoo on her cheek. We went into the bathroom before the game and someone complimented her on how cute she looked. Can you see a Florida fan doing that?

The only thing I didn't like about MSU was the cowbells. The university obviously doesn't care about them. The only thing they had was a sign saying that no artificial noisemakers were allowed. However, they didn't check bags or anything. I guess it's like the old saying...if someone in Starkville rings a cowbell, will anyone be around to hear it?

The campus was nice, but there is a pretty good amount of apathy towards their football. the student section in the endzone never filled up, and 3 min before gametime, it was almost empty. In fact, the stadium never filled up. The top 4 corners were empty. TN fans made up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the Stadium.

That said, the highlight of Starkville was the Chilis. Not much going on down there. I did like that Hwy 82 into Starkville had a 70mph speedlimit. Made those last 80 miles off of the interstate bearable.

I agree that the fans were some of the nicest around. Walking to the stadium, we were offered food and a place to watch other games many times. I didn't here one cross word before, during, or after the game. My wife and I stopped to eat in Tupelo on the way home and while we were eating our waiter came over and said that a gentleman wanted to pay for our meal. Turns out in was a MSU fan. He siad that we played a good game and that he was impressed with how well our fans travelled and that he wanted to help us with the cost our our trip. I declined but thanked him saying that it was extremely generous of him. I don't think that would ever happen in Tuscaloosa.........

Wow that is great!!!! I wish I had went now. It is so good to hear that there are still a few out there that has good sportsmanship, and we need to remember how our fans were treated down in Starksville when they come here the next time. Hats off to you MSU.:salute:

We were also at the game - made for a long trip but it was worth it. Everyone was very nice to us as well but the cowbells gave me a splitting headache - I do wish they would enforce that rule... It looked like a really large group of Vols made the game. Anyone have any estimate of numbers...

If I had to guess, I'd say close to 10k. I figure that each upper deck holds around 8-9k, and ours was almost full, and almost all UT. The lower deck had another couple thousand, maybe, with a few more fans scattered throughout.

I didn't know Florida fans used the facilities. I heard they usually have a baggie handy.:whistling:

My group met up with the annoying Bulldog fan.

Some chick came up with a cow bell and rang it in our ears yelling WHOOOO GO STATE!!! Turned around and she's wearing a purple dress. Another WHOOO GO STATE with the cow bell in our face. Asked if she was a student and she said yes. Asked why she wasn't wearing Miss St colors and she said she "I uh....don't have any." We laughed at her and she walked away.

Other than that nobody said a word to us, good or bad.

ah, the obligatory "UTK won so the other fans were all real nice folks" thread.
yeah...i was down there in 94 when we lost. my memories aren't so rosy. images of drinks being dumped on me and other fans, people that had TN car flags on their vehicles set on fire etc....

and you can't buy cold beer in Starkville. dreadful.

glad you folks had a nice trip, but i've seen the ugly side of those folks.....
