'26 MS WR Tristen Keys (lsu commit)

Ha ok buddy. I know thinking you can pull the #1 wr away from an LSU commitment as a Vol program is most likely a bridge too far.

So the staff should not even attempt to recruit him because he’s committed elsewhere?

What a bold strategy.

Then how does it work? The way I see it: say we offered Hiter 800k, now that he isn’t jumping in the boat we have 800k of funds left extra, so might as well use it on someone else
If you OVERPAY 1 you have to be prepared to overpay all. Not a good plan. Could sweeten the pot a little to show some love, but gotta have lines drawn.

If it was up to the folks who keep saying “just overpay” for this guy or that guy, we wouldn’t have any players left on the roster. lol

Because it’s not just budgeting one class but managing a whole roster. You pay keys an extra $800k and all of a sudden your former 5 star on the roster is like wait he got way more than I did, shoo maybe he’s making nearly what I am and not even on campus yet. Now youre raising the price for everyone just to smoothe that over, and still maybe lost some trust, or worse you lose guys and the locker room. The players talk. Theyre kids. They’re gonna find out whose getting paid and on what level.

So play those games and be constantly fighting a narrative or go by the budget and the market rates and you might be able to stretch a bit to secure the right player, but you can’t just be throwing whole player allotments around, and that would be dumb to pay a player more than they’re worth and then get a Nico situation down the road.

Think longer term yall.

More likely is you don’t sign as many as you expected and you simply sign more out of the portal and more next class, so you turn your focus there sooner and try to make that happen. Very unlikely you choose to spend dollars today only to likely lose them tomorrow, unless you want to be Florida state and signing a whole new roster each year, which also sounds like a losing proposition.

People also conveniently get how many dudes we added after this point in the calendar last year. Literal small brain thinking in this thread. Never fails lol

If we have a receiver that’s in a position to ask for a raise at the end of this season because we gave Keys one our WR room is going to be in great shape

If our passing has a solid season. Matthews and Staley have good years. The freshmen flash, potentially do more than that and they all decide to come back. You have a nice core coming back. With 3-4 high school recruits coming in. You have room receiver room with 9 guys.
“Nice” is no longer enough, particularly when we have Faizon Brandon coming down the pipe. We need a trio of high round draft picks. Preferably future NFL WR1s. Do they have to be Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson? Not necessarily, but even Georgia had Ladd McConkey, Brock Bowers, George Pickens, and AD Mitchell and they’re not even remembered for an elite passing game. WR is one of the positions you have to be elite at to win unless you’re Andy Reid or Bill Belichick

Have some of you not learned anything thing from Nico fiasco? This fanbase was ready to crown Nico a multi year Heisman winner before he took a snap. Now you are doing the same thing with Brandon. Also, When Matthews, Staley, Smith and Jefferson were all labeled “must get” recruits by this fanbase. Now that they are on campus they apparently are unproven and aren’t any good. Guess who else will be unproven when they arrive on campus? Faizon Brandon and Tristen Keys. Some of you build these players up as recruits but the second they arrive on campus they all of sudden aren’t any good. It’s the same thing every year.

For sure we can establish that guys physically blessed and dominant in HS and awarded stars are not guaranteed to produce as GAMERS in college. Equally a certainty is that declaring them not any good before they actually play a significant number of games is weak.
