If you turn and run backwards doesn’t that mean you are progressing toward the line of scrimmage ass first?

He coached up Carter just fine. Coaches need talent and in this case SEC talent. Scheme and fit matter as well.

Telander is catching a lot from some fans but you nailed it. Let the man play downhill and blow up the backfield. Dropping him back 15 yards at the snap in zone, having him spy a faster qb, or allowing a TE to iso on him in coverage play calls are not ideal. We should see Knowles put players in positions to utilize their skill sets better instead of forcing a square into a round hole and wondering what happened when it didn’t work. Over and over.

Unfortunately I dont think he can play downhill. Takes awful angles and will run himself out of plays.

I’ve mentioned time and time again and will continue to I guess, when you are coached to play bend it don’t break, read and react to where the ball goes, on your heels waiting at the snap, or turning and running away from the ball to sit in a spot in zone like a 4th grader, you won’t play to your best. Your instinct is taken away. You will be late, which means you have a blocker on you or a better chance at a bad angle. He is a mlb who shouldn’t be doing anything other than disrupting the Los or dropping a few yards back in zone coverage or help on a crosser, never with his back to the qb. If you ask him to cover the rb in the opposite flat after misdirection, he’s going to be late there too.
Slow has never been used to describe his play on the field until this year, including last year and his division in HS which was very competitive and he was often the best athlete on the field.
