So I pose a question for volnation to discuss....

Will we ever see Sheriron Jones on the field for the Vols? He was the 7th ranked DTQB coming out of highschool rated a 4* prospect. He has talent. He was in the same recruiting class as Lamar Jackson for UL (ranked 13th DTQB).

I am not asking for this year but for the future. Dobbs is our QB this year and he seems like the perfect fit for the CBJ offense but of course we have highly rated Guarantano that will red shirt this year. Many have said he will be the next QB when Dobbs leaves.

From what i saw last week, kid is a leader and doesn't mind jumping in someone's a** if they aren't pulling their weight. Leadership qualities like that is what every football team needs. I would love to see the kid in a game and see what he can do. What is holding him back?

My question is why is he 3rd string and will he ever see playing time for the Vols?

He's hurt.

I would start him this weekend if it were up to me. We know what Dobbs can do and it would be a reward for Sheriron for being seemingly the only player fired up early last game. Either that or Dormady plays the 1st half and Sheriron starts the 2nd half.

I think you will see one of the most interesting and high profile QB battles next Spring between Jones, G, and Domady

I love Jones. But Dormady is pretty good. Jarret G could be special in college.

Funny thing, had he stuck with the Gators in his recruitment hed probably be their starter.

Its the Dormady show in 2017.

Jones has some talent. But i think Butch just has a comfert level with Dormady much more than Jones.

Jones or Dormady would light secondaries up if they played in the Pac 12 or Big 12.

Anyway, NO, Jones won't play here. He'll transfer.

Probably because Dormady has more experience, can run the offense better, and is a year further along than Jones. Plus, Jones had a knee injury either just before or at the beginning of spring practice.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in some 3rd or 4th quarters of games. Would mean we are dominating teams.

Ideally, Dobbs should play about 2 series, then Dormady till 4th Qtr when we are up around 30 points, then Sheriron finish game! :rock:

Dormady needs some real reps, not just handing off for 5 plays!!

Why not? If he's healthy then there's no reason not to against Ohio. Rest Dobbs and see what your other options are capable of, there's no reason that we shouldn't be able to beat Ohio with all the same starting players and the lone change being the qb.

I'm certainly glad Sheriron reconsidered his transfer and came back. After his performance on the sideline last week, he certainly deserves some playing time. If his sideline performance could transfer to the playing field - WOW!

I divide it by thirds:

-- One-third chance he gets playing time at QB (even if just career backup to Dormady or Guarantano);
-- One-third chance he leaves for a program where he can start;
-- One-third chance he shifts to another position and becomes a star in a new role.

Some of those thirds may actually be bigger than others, that's just very rough estimation.

My hope is that we see him on the field wearing orange, whatever the role.

Go Vols!

i am not ready to call him special but i think we reward him for being passionate and caring about UT when we needed it... JMO:eek:k:

I love having both, S Jones and Q Dormady, on our sideline as VFLs. They both made the decision to commit to UT knowing that it would be an up hill climb to get on the field. Saban and Bama wanted Dormady really bad and the same can be said of Florida relating to S Jones. Big possibillity that if they both had decided differently that we would be seeing them under center, as starters, for Florida and Bama this year. Huge recruiting by Butch here. It's not always about who you run out there to play for you. Sometimes it's about keeping a kid so that they don't run out there for someone else.

It appears we need him more as a sideline motivational speaker than anything else right now.

I wouldn't count out Sheriron next Spring. Even if G and Dormady have better arms, if Jones has better leadership, better decision making, and better poise, he could win it.

What? No speculation that SJ appears on the field for some 2QB trick play? VN's slipping...

I agree. Only scoring 5 TD's is reason enough for me to put Dobbs on the bench. Lol

Boy are we quick to crown kings around here. I admire his enthusiasm from the sideline but the kid has done nothing to deserve this kind of praise yet. He yelled at some O linemen, get over it.

I agree AND I need to remind everyone Dobbs was a #3 QB who was pressed into service. I recall posting that Peterman was an unknown quantity one never knows how a kid is going to do when the lights come on and he has to perform. Worley down, Peterman swooned, Dobbs took over and been there since. Were Dobbs to go down there's no guarantee Dormady could handle it, he could swoon as well. Enter Sheiron Jones.

Sheriron "JONES" will never play here for fear some will think he is letting his son play. :eek:lol: Isnt that also why Jack doesn't play? Is there a nepotism rule?

Haha
