Rafferty's.....not on my top list of places to eat in Ktown. But to each his own I guess. I prefer the original Copper Cellar downstairs for a good casual dinner. The downtown grill is nice as well. As for college park...well I have not been there since it was built. I am too old for those shennanagins

Lame. Nixon's is horrible. I live out west now and miss the K-Ville Deli's so much. Gus's, Benjis', Ashley's, and especially Vic and Bill's. Maybe they aren't what they were, but they are better than these bullcrap chains. There are no steamed stubs in the west. Lame.
I am convinced that steamed subs are fairly unique to Knoxville. I have had a hard time finding them elsewhere.

copper celler? it's a little overrated, but i guess for people your age, it's perfect. :wink2: i think raferty's has a much better selection of food. as for college park, that make will make you feel at least 10 years younger.

I dunno. I would definitely take Copper Cellar over Rafferty's. Rafferty's is just another O'Charley's, TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday's, etc... to me. Plus, you can find them anywhere, not just Knoxville.

You should check out Old College Inn on the strip near campus... Beer and cheese bings... good stuff...

You should look into a little pizza joint called Stephano's (try their Mystery White)

Check out a Mexican place in Bearden called El Charro's... all really good...

Also a great resturant called Green Hills Grill... try their Heath Bar Pie...

Tennessee Grill is good too on gameday...

Cheers! Welcome to K-town!

you've got to be kidding me. Raferty's is way above those crap places. it's not even close. at the most, there's only 6-7 raferty's. copper celler is overpriced for what you get. it's not bad, but raferty's is better. how dare you compare raferty's with ruby's, fridays.

Rafferty's is possibly the single worst restaurant in Knoxville.

You're right.....you shouldn't compare Rafferty's to Ruby Tuesdays or TGI Fridays.....RT & TGIF are both much better than Rafferty's....heck, I'd rather eat at McDonald's before nasty Rafferty's.:birgits_giggle:

On a better note......I've yet to have a bad steak at Ye Ole Steak House! Cool atmosphere, BYOB, & really great steaks.......

Agreed, Ye Olde Steakhouse is one of my favorites, too.

Actually, there are over 20 Rafferty's in 7 different states. So yeah, there's nothing special or local about it. Plus, it's just not good.

In other news, I hear that Wendy's place is really good, but I've never seen them outside of Knoxville. Anybody got the scoop?

Congrats, Hat. Hadn't heard your news.

On topic: give some details about your age, budget, area of town, and what you're looking for.

There are many good, and a few great, new places to eat around town. Market Square and Gay Street have been revived. There is now a Ruth's Chris and Fleming's in town. There are a number of good sushi options. Seafood is still lagging, but Bonefish in Turkey Creek is good, and I really enjoyed a recent meal at the old Chesapeake's. Ye Olde is a tradition. Turkey Creek is full of options, to meet any budget. Savelli's and Vinny and Me are good for Italian.

As for "hanging out," I can no longer answer for the "college crowd," but again, Market Square is cool, as is the DTGB and Sapphire on Gay. The Valarium is pulling in all kinds of cool shows, and the Tennessee Theater and the Bijou have been renovated and are great venues (Widespread recently played 3 consecutive nights). I haven't really found much to suit me in the Old City in a while, but some people dig the Urban Bar. Out west, you've got 4620 (Jazz), Baker Peters (good food and jazz), Irish Times, Bailey's, and Wild Wing Cafe. Not my style, but there are, of course, the two country bars, and Electric Cowboy has Knoxville's only "dueling piano" show.

Buffalo wild wings on the strip is awesome.. especially on gameday and also monday nights for Tall Paul. Roaming Knome (formerly charlie peppers) across from buff WW is awesome for live music on the weekends. RT's and Hannahs are good for looking for girls.

this pretty good advice minus the BWW, i guess.
