The snow thread just got me thinkin...how many people here would love to see the gators come up to Knoxville on an unseasonably freezing cold November night with a freezing rain/sleet mixture.

I know it has been discussed in the past in the AD and perhaps in a VN thread. That game in 2001 was highly anticipated and equally as awesome for vol fans. Wouldn't the SEC want a highly touted game with possible National or SEC championship potential toward the end of the regular season rather than the beginning?

Move the FSU game towards the beginning of the year and shuffle a game on our schedule. Vuala!

Has been raised by Hammy in the past, Florida was nonplussed.

It will never, ever happen. Ever. Why?

I think UT fans would like to switch the Vandy and Florida games. It would be a big SEC game that means something but the Gators play Florida State the final game of each season. They usually schedule a cupcake before that game. I am sure they would be opposed to switching.

I would not want to see it. Who wants to see a game of that magnitude impacted by weather? Not me. Let's play in the cool of the fall and declare early on who is the beast of the east.

Impacted by weather as in low 90's with 60% humidity? I heard you guys have pretty nice weather down there in November. Besides, it's not exactly cool in Knoxville in Sept.

Cool of the Fall?

Have you been to Knoxville or Gainesville in early September?

We just need to beat their asses. No excuses.

During the 1980s, Nebraska used to complain about always having to go play some Florida-based team in the Orange Bowl, where they would lose. But they finally got sick of it and just found a way to get better, so they could beat any team under any conditions.

We don't need November weather in Knoxville to beat the Gators. We need better players and a better attitude. And I think we're soon going to have them both.

Play'em early, if you lose, you still have time to climb the polls. Losing late in the season is more damaging than losing early because of the polls.

As far as the weather, I don't think it would matter when most of Tennessee's players come from the same places as Florida's players.

Is Foley's Secretary's Neighbor the AD at Florida State?

Why would Florida want to play Tennessee and Florida State both in November?

The original proposal would have been to reverse the games on the schedule.

One of the reasons given for not doing so was because it would put the game on a far-lesser stage.....and wouldn't be as good for FSU / ACC.

I don't know who FSU's AD may be, but whoever it is, they've got more clout with the SEC office than Hammy.

That's right the last thing I want to see is Florida making excuses about weather when we start beating their tails.

Blaming that on Hamilton is ridiculous. Florida has two rivalry games more important than us. Playing Tennessee in September has always worked out pretty damn well for the Gators. Why would Foley have any interest at all in changing the status quo?

UT would have a much better chance against florida late in the year, when it's cold and they are all banged up. Hamilton should pressure the SEC to move the game to November!

It doesn't matter at this point because we are several years away from fielding a team that can play with the Gators anyway.

Playing in November doesn't change the fact that UF has far superior talent to UT at this point.

I think it actually works to Tennessee's advantage to play a weaker schedule (Vandy, UK, USCe) late in the year because our players aren't typically snow birds either. Our roster is full of players from Georgia, Florida, and other warmer states. Novembers in Knoxville are as cold for us as it is for the opponents.

I think the weather factor is overstated. Playing in high humidity is just as uncomfortable for Tennessee as it is for Florida. And typically in early fall it is still hot and high humidity in Tennessee as it is in Florida, so I don't see any advantage.

You can say it's a cliche, but sports is 90% mental. If you can play smarter that your opponent, the weather is a non-issue.

There are bad heat/humidity days in Knoxville in September, but it's still not nearly as oppressive as Gainesville IMO. I live about 80 miles south of Atlanta and the worst day in Knoxville feels fine compared to down here.

At this rate, that won't happen until the ice caps have melted and the players need scuba gear at Neyland.

Just curious... why is it a Sep or Nov decision? What about October? That's the real meat of the season and it would fit great in early Oct. I would rather play FL than GA in Oct, take a week off, and get ready for AL and SC. GA in Sep is better than FL. Nov's schedule has always been a bit "cupcake loaded" and that's fine with me.
