Moving away to the Midwest

So I’m moving to Lincoln Nebraska for work and although I’ve heard they have a great game day atmosphere I was wondering if any fellow Vols are in the area and do they have any watch parties... you know cause we will have a season in the SEC!

As always GBO!
I don’t think Nebraska is really the Midwest. It is more of the northern Plains. But it’s really semantics. It is not how cold it gets but it is how long it stays cold. If you were raised in the south you will never get used to 5 or 6 months of winter. So plan a trip to a warm place every February for two weeks and plot your plan to make it back south as soon as possible. It took me 19 years, and tons of brats and beer and Old Fashions, but I am so Glad to Be Home in TENNESSEE!

I'll be moving to Michigan in September

After 55 years in Knoxville, I moved to Michigan about 3 years ago. We live in the Metro Detroit area and I could count on one hand the number of Power T's I've seen since I got here. All I can say is you better get used to maize and blue or green and white. And it ain't much fun.

Ain’t that the truth! And better go ahead and pay through the nose to get SEC network because people in the Midwest hate the SEC so much they’d rather watch Illinois vs Rutgers than any SEC game even if it is a high profile game. And you can hear all the grumbling about cheaters and poor academics if the SEC is mentioned at all. I cut my cable cord rather than pay for the super premium cable package in Wisconsin that would get me SECN thinking I could always go to a sports bar and get a screen. Well if you don’t mind being the furthest corner watching on a 18” screen have at it.

On the upside though, you will be able to develop a hatred for tOSU that you can keep with you the rest of your life!

I live in Fort Collins Colorado, but I have a business in western Nebraska. I’ll tell you one thing about Cornhusker fans, having spent a lot of time there over the past 18 years...they still wallow in the 1997 Orange Bowl. They can’t let it go. 🙄

Do yourself a favor, once you get out there and settled, grab your camping gear and head out to Lake McConaughy. It’s a white sandy beach with a huge lake in western Nebraska. You’ll be glad you did.

Jake and Matt52500, if you guys ever make it north to Montana, particularly in football season, consider yourselves to also have a standing invitation to come visit. Transplanted Big Orange fans in the Rocky Mountain states have to stick together. Conversely, the sacred colors most definitely are a conversation starter upon meeting strangers.

Where are you in Montana? I spend some time in Bozeman working every now and then...and Missoula periodically

Don't do it. It sucks out here. I hate this hellhole (Meth-ssouri) and can't wait to leave, life just keeps getting in the daggone way.

This is the kiss of death when it comes to locations, "They've got great hunting and fishing."

Notice I left off fishing. I've lived from Johson City to Los Angeles, and several in between. Johnson City is the only place I left due to crappy hunting.

Just found out today that I’m leaving Knoxville to head up to Battle Creek Michigan. Not sure I can handle hearing about SEC bias and the greatness of the big ten. My only saving grace is that Battle Creek is divided amongst MSU and UM fans. They spend most of the time hating each other.

Just put your head down and power through it. It’s going to suck. It’s going to be cold. It’s going to be different, but one thing it’s not is forever.

I moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas (on the Oklahoma line) forty five years ago. That was when college TV games were limited by the NCAA to one or two a week and the Vols seemed to make it once about every two years. As far as the Vols went, it was like being on the dark side of the moon. If the weather was favorable, I could catch John Ward and Bill Anderson on fading radio signals from a station in Memphis. People don't realize how good they've got it now. I can even follow the baseball Vols on my laptop.

Aside from the Cornhuskers being big in football, how big of a deal do people in Nebraska make of the Creighton Bluejays in basketball? I know the mens team for Nebraska hasn't really done anything, but the Bluejays seem to at least make the NIT if not the NCAA on a fairly regular basis.

Good Luck!

I had three firsts while working for a few weeks in Omaha ...

1. First Sushi, yeah for real
2. First 10 hour horizontal snow storm, blew so hard the snow couldn't stick
3. First Tumbleweed, rolled in front of my car at night on I-80, the size of a VW Bug!

But, I liked it there.... Hope you like Lincoln as well.

You might want to check the population of the county they are in as a whole and the metro for each city.
just for city of knoxville and city of lincoln.. just under 300k in lincoln.. if you go complete counties only about 320k(maybe might be lower) total in Lancaster lol! but the city itself is very populated where yeah you take knox county i would bet somewhere around or a little over 400K maybe! i find both cities to have the entertainment just a little more to do in knox county as a whole!
