Rented the Lincoln Lawyer, predictable ending but I still enjoyed the movie a lot. Matthew McConaughey was really good.

Limitless - not bad. Kinda clever.
Arthur - stupid
Captain America - barely tolerable. Tommy Lee Jones was the only decent aspect of the movie.

Had a movie marathon weekend with the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I really didn't have the desire to see these previously, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about for when people found out I had not seen any of these movies. Still don't get the hype, just not my kind of movie. First one was okay, but then it just seemed to be the same thing over and over, just longer and longer. :bad:

Saw Cowboys and Aliens. Not bad. Not super great.

I like that they didn't get completely stupid. Wasn't a cheesy action flick. An actual attempt to blend western and sci fi, but it was a little slow.

6-6.5/10

Battle Royale

In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act.

That about sums it up. Followed by wtf.

I saw Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes tonight. it was pretty good. In some parts I felt like it was dragged out a little too long, yet was surprised how they fit that entire script into 105 minutes.

Just started Battle Royale 2.

I advise watching the first one for sure if you're into bad ass movies. It's japenese and in subtitles but it's awesome. It's like Lord Of The Flies with more gore and violence. A bunch of kids are given weapons and forced to murder each other and only one gets to live. If they fail to do so in 3 days, they all die. So you get to see heads cut off and all of that good stuff. Pretty awesome

Sounds like the Hunger Games

Sounds like the Hunger Games

After reading Hunger Games, it sounds exactly like that lol.

Looks like the books were published about the same time. Hunger Games in Sept 1998 and Battle Royale in April 1999. Wonder if Battle Royale ripped it off. I'm guessing they didn't unless they wrote the book in the span of 6 months. I suppose it's possible.

Too bad Hunger games doesn't have a movie coming out until 2012. I'm gonna have to check it out. I think it will be pretty hard to match Battle Royale though. Received 7 nominations and won all 7. Plus, it's going to be in english with american actors right? I'm not sure they'll be able to match the asian directors. They are pretty out there in the way they film things and the actors are nuts.

I'll definitely see it and compare the two because it sounds exactly the same.

Went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes last night.

I pride myself on avoiding awful movies in the theatre. I read many reviews and do my homework before I spend money at the theatre. This movie slipped through the cracks. It is easily one of the WORST movies I have seen in the last 5 years. Completely wastes two great actors in Franco and Lithgow, and has a completely predictable narrative. Even a good portion of the dialogue can be predicted before it is spoken.

Many of the most tense portions of the action resulted in the audience busting out loud with laughter because the scenes were so ridiculous and unrealistic.

If you are into mindless/thoughtless cinema and just want to sit and munch your popcorn while you waste away a summer afternoon then this movie may have some redeeming quality to it. (Also, Freida Pinto is beautiful, but she doesn't count as a redeeming quality because they don't use her for anything other than to have a female presence)

I prefer films that provoke thought, have good performances from the actors, and surprise the audience. This movie does none of the three. Mix in the socio awareness sub topic of how wrong it is to do research on animals and you have a true liberal Hollywood summer blockbuster.

Maybe it's predictable because it's a prequel.

It's Planet of the Apes. It's not really supposed to be taken seriously.

You are insane. It was awesome. I had so much fun (most since Zombieland). 8/10 on IMDB, FWIW. That's a very good rating. You are the minority.

Zombieland only works because of the outstanding performances from the cast. If that film had focused on the CGI of the zombies rather than the characters themselves, it would have been a stinker too.
