Most unexpected win in the Barnes era?

Maybe just me but with this win We're definitely in the dance. I'm fine with the struggles now because I want this team hitting it's peak in March obviously. Not too surprised with the issues because we went from playing one new guy in Knecht last year to basically playing 4 new guys and then we have ZZ and Gainey. Things will iron themselves out.

I don’t recall another game where I had lower expectations going into tipoff. For me, this is on par with the 22 football victory over bama.
I wonder if any of you commenting about how great UT played today are any of the ones in the thread about UT being favored and SAYING UT DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN TODAY!

We were 4.5 point favorites yesterday, and have only lost one game at home this year and it took a 50% 3 pt shooting performance to beat us. So no, I'm not terribly surprised we won. To win by 20 is impressive though.

Great team win. Fundamentals really showed today…defense, rebounding, etc. Seems Okpara has greatly improved. He boxed out /screened so well today, allowing Lanier and others to take it to the hole. Like his quickness and hustle! He could become a beast in the future.

This team is incredibly unpredictable. They play lights out defense and crush a team that embarrassed them two weeks ago. How? I’m sure some people lost money on what looked like a sure thing. They could go deep in the tournament or lose in the first round. Neither would surprise me.
We may have moved back to a 2 seed line today. That being said, a loss in the first round should be e totally unexpected. Our defense is too good

I didn't have high expectations-- especially after the blow out at Florida. Who would have thought that we'd give it back to them, without ZZ?
The team played great game.......
Everyone stepped up their game
I went to game person sitting beside
Me said Ziegler and Igor not playing.
I almost left game thinking about beating Gainesville.......
Give credit coaching staff having team ready...,..losing 2 starters..,...
It was great win Go Vols!!!!!!!

I think it tells us a lot about the character of this team, and that the coaching staff still has these guys very dialed in. I was starting to wonder, but my concerns have now been addressed. Rick Barnes is smart, I am not very smart.

I do not think I was on that thread, but I have no problem admitting that I did not think they had a chance today after they announced we were going to be without two starters. I thought we had a shot until they announced who was out.

That was the equivalent of beating a football team like Alabama this year without Nico and without our starting center.
Florida’s basketball team is way better than Alabama was at football this past year. And losing 2/5 starters means more in basketball than 2/22 in football. It would have been more like beating Bama in 2022 without Hooker and any of the starters OL on either line.

The only game I can recall quite like this was Kansas in 2010.

I didn’t comment on the game until afterwards, but if your family’s lives depended on you correctly picking the winner of the game today, you would never have picked Tennessee. So don’t try to act like you “saw this coming” or that anyone who thought we would lose is a bad fan who isn’t allowed to comment after a good win.

That spread swung 15 points when we announced we were missing 2 starters. Mentioning the spread when we were thought to have a full complement of players is pretty irrelevant to what anyone actually thought coming into the game once the news broke that an already shallow team was going to be without 2 starters.

In regards to your first comment, there is no way to know that right now.

Well, we had 21 pts/game, 11 rebounds/game and some steals missing. Was the line actually Florida - 9 at game time? Honest question

Definitely in the dance? We weren't before today?

or started their own thread UT could lose the next 6 in arow.
Usually I ignore those type comments/threads cause they seem motivated by uncontrollable emotions (which I have trouble tolerating 😂). But some reacted as if this team had been annihilated by double digits by cellar dweller teams instead of every loss to currently ranked teams including #1 team on their own floor by a couple of points. A loss to Florida was NEVER a sure thing but some pronounced it before the game 🤷‍♂️…My business partner approaches games like this even during the game announcing the game over with 10 minutes left because we gave up a three point basket type stuff. Makes it really hard to enjoy the game with him sometimes!

Nah - I thought we’d win today even without ZZ. Too much pride on the line. For me, the first one that comes to mind where nobody expected us to win was the 2nd round NCAAT game vs Duke two years ago.
