Most underutilized Vol?

Sorry to say Witten was criminally underutilized as a Vol in an era where TE’s were starting to have epic outcomes in critical games. IMO our failure to build an entire O pkg around Witten who could catch anything and was virtually unstoppable was one of the key factors that sunk our ‘01 NC hopes.

I’m probably wrong on this but in ‘01 didn’t Witten only start like 2 games??

I mean just watching Witten run rings around and bowl over Michigan defenders in the ‘01 Citrus Bowl was an eye-popping experience of the guy’ on field dominance.

But in ‘02 Witten had basically 10 more catches and 100 more reception yards playing in 3 more games so it was just the same ‘ol same ‘ol Tennessee vanilla O

Perhaps, but it was amazing how quickly those concerns evaporated after he went off on Ole Miss a week following another loss to Florida in which he hardly touched the ball.
