Was having this discussion with another Vol fan. We tried to pick out the Vol who was the least used or most improperly used during his time at UT.
We came up with these three.
KWashington
CPatterson
AKamara

Your thoughts?

Washington wasn't underused, he was injured in yr 2, split receptions with 3 other NFL'ers his breakout year. Butch should be in jail for not finding more ways to use Kamara.

I don’t really see the Patterson argument. We used that dude on every play it seemed. He was typically lined up at receiver, but he would also take handoffs, and he was our kick returner.

I’d be willing to bet he and Bray logged the most offensive minutes in his lone year with the Vols.

I think AK is probably going to dominate this discussion, but I will throw one out of left field as well: Keller Chryst.

And this isn’t another JG bashing, Chryst was just the better, more experienced player. He was good at things JG was never good at (like throwing receivers open rather than throwing to the open receiver). JG should have sat behind him and learned in 2018, then we may all have a different view of JG.

Ding ding ding! I remember the goobers on another board explaining to me that Witten was "triple teamed on every play" when in reality he was a victim of Fulmer's pathetic offense.

Without Fulmer, Witten would have never seen the offensive side of the ball at all. He was recruited as a DE out of high school. We had injuries at TE and he got moved over and made the most of it.

Witten had to split touches with the likes of Dante Stallworth, Travis Stephens, Gerald Riggs Jr, Leonard Scott, Cedric Houston, Kelly Washington. That’s tough sledding to say he was under utilized when there was so much other talent on the team.

Outside of the obvious ones, you could say Butch burning Dobbs’ redshirt belongs in the conversation. I think that falls into the “improper use” category.
If my memory is correct, he was the only QB we even had at that point. Worley injured his shoulder, Peterman broke his hand, and Ferguson was dealing with a leg injury. I don't really think we had a choice.

I believe you're correct. I remember fretting that the skinny Dobbs was going to be broken in two. But, to his credit, he kept bouncing up. I can only remember once that he took a shot (speered in the chest, but still got a rushing touchdown) and didn't get right up. Might have sat out one down. One tough dude.

We weren’t going anywhere that season. We were in the midst of play 5 consecutive top 10 teams. Just run wildcat the rest of the season with Pig Howard if you have to. The first game action of Dobbs’ career were #1 Alabama, #9 Missouri, #9 Auburn. That’s not how you setup a true freshman QB for success. I don’t care what the situation was, he shouldn’t have played in 2013. Once we got to that portion of the schedule, there was no reason to throw him in there. And the same thing happened the following season. Didn’t play him until Alabama. Should’ve started him from the beginning of the season in 2014.
