Most Overrated

You can be any age and still play college ball as long as you are still eligible. USCjr had a reciever a couple of years ago that was 39 or something.

However, thats got to be a typo. Baxter was in high school last year. Probably meant to say 91 instead of 81

Nahhh he graduated at 29.. took a few years to get outta hike skool, but he sure did, did it!

People, I hate to break this to you...but Taylor Mays is actually overrated. He's made out to be some physical cover safety when in all reality he is a linebacker playing safety and gets caught out of position more times than not.

Taylor Mays gets put in the right system (not saying he will) he'll be a badass. If he's forced to be a cover safety, he'll be mediocre.

How about Derrick Tinsley? Suppose to be a huge playmaker, made one big play (against Miami in 03').

Jon Crompton too. Suppose to be the next great Vol QB. All waited to get Ainge out of here, and did nothing in 08.

Tinsley played WR, TB and I think a little DB too.

Everytime he got somewhat comfortable in a position, they'd move him.

I don't really put that on him

It was Brandon Stewart. I think Peyton Manning had a lot to do with his disappearance. Stewart transferred to Texas A&M. I think he started for awhile there, but I'm not sure he finished as the starting QB.

I'll have to agree with the people that named O.J. Owens as the most overrated. Donald would make my short list as would Brandon Jefferies.

Maybe I'm getting mixed up in my old age, but Brandon Stewart was the starter for Texas A&M in 98 and possibly helped us get to the championship game. Seems like he beat K-State at the end of the season when they were undefeated. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

On topic, he wasn't overrated. I just think he was the second best QB on the roster. He was good enough to give Manning a run for his money. That's saying something.

Brian Darden - most overrated signee in UT history; considered top rb and athlete in class
Randy Hall - USA Today AA, top OL in nation; never did squat in college
Courtney Epps - high school AA in 92; got hit so hard by a gator lb in '94, he never played again
Mike Grein - AA QB never played
Michael Munoz - hate to say it, but he rode his daddy's coattails to AA staus and No.1 OT in high school; average OT in college.
Brandon Ashley - top DE never saw the field
Travis Cozart - criminal
Demo Morley - never lived up to top db in high school billing

Someone earlier said Jon Wade, how was he overrated? He came in being hyped as a track guy that we could use as a KR/PR, got some playing time at WR and had trouble catching the ball, switched to DB and is now in the NFL starting I believe for the Rams.

Someone earlier also mentioned a list of players that included Swain and Kevin Simon, then said Swain could be removed b/c he was solid just got injured alot. How is that not what every TN record book says about Kevin Simon? Dude was a beast in HS and blew out his knee in the AA game, came to TN and blew out his knee again, came back from that and provided two good years at LB for us.

a few names since 02'...

I'm considering them overrated being that they were rated 4 stars by rivals(yea I know it's the star ratings, blah blah), even if they contributed for us.

Chris Hannon: even though he's bounced around the NFL and is still playing in some league somewhere, I can literally remember him catching maybe 3 TDs in his time at UT. Props to him for still playing somewhere though.
Brandon Jefferies
Daniel Brooks
Albert Toeina: with the hype that he and Jesse came in with, I expected big things from him. By the end of his 4th year he was benched and left his helmet on the field.
Todd Cox: 4 star that never made it to school...not sure if he ever made it to any school
Raymond Henderson: now a Golden Gopher
Demtrice Morley
Adam Meyers-White: came in as a 4 star safety, bulked up and moved to LB and got lost in the shuffle
Walter Fischer: supposed to be a 5 star DT
Chris Donald
Nevin McKenzie: didn't do too much for us for him to be a 4 star
Kenny O'Neal
Ahmad Paige
EJ Abrams-Ward

I'm sure every school has a list like this but you just look at the names and what they SHOULD have done and it's amazing how many actually never even came close to being what they were hyped as being. And there are still plenty you could add on here.

Kenny O'neal definitely came to mind.

Right when he committed my friend who is an FSU fan warned me... He was right.

There might be a another topic about this, but i havnt ever seen it ha. But who do you think was or is the most Overrated player?

In my eyes it would have to be BB so far.

Non-UT would deff be Taylor Mays. Without a doubt.

Lamarcus Coker - INSANELY OVERRATED.
