Most Important Hire

Chip Kelly could take this team and win the East in his first year. It would be a grand slam hire. It makes so much sense doing it, that of course it won't happen. Here's to hoping Currie breaks the mold of administrative incompetence.

Jones is the right person to take a team to the toilet

Chip Kelly wouldn't work here. A dual threat offense will never work in the SEC. Plus we'd have to rebuild our roster. We run near the same offense as kelly ran, but without the players that fit in the system. For some reason Butch likes recruiting players that he knows aren't going to fit in the system. Ex. pro style quarterback in a spread read option scheme.

Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, Nick Marshall, Jalen Hurts, Josh Dobbs. I think all these dual threat guys did more than ok in the SEC and pssst... I'll let you in a little secret...they were all in a dual threat system. All those guys played for a national championship except Prescott and Dobbs but they both put up great numbers against the SEC so I don't know where this line of thinking comes from. Any system will work in any conference so long as the right coaches are in place. Football is Football.

Honestly, I think UT has tried in the past. We offered a lot of money to Charlie Strong. Of that I'm certain. Likely several others. Gundy perhaps? This just isn't the job and location for everyone. As much as I'd like to see Gruden here, he's just not going to give up his cushy, lucrative gig on TV for the job. I don't see Kelly being a fit and I don't see our admin going for him. Personalities would be sure to clash. Patterson has a great thing going at TCU. He's set there. Why uproot and step into a meat grinder like the sec? I just don't think it's as easy as folks seem to think.

I can see a Brohm or Frost type, but even that isn't a lock. They might have a dream job they feel is near opening up and prefer to wait. The job is tough and not easily filled.....or at least that's how I explain the hiring of Dooley.

The Dooley story is well documented. Coach Kiffin bails on the Vols 10 days before signing day. Hamilton panicks and hires no name Dooley.

in program history and have to get this one right. This program is in a lot better shape financially and on the field (despite recent results) than when Dooley or Butch took over. However, there will be a lot of fans taking a wait and see approach with the next hire and if UT goes the mid-major/bargain bin route again there will be a lot of potential for apathy, which this program cannot afford right now. Therefore, we need to at least swing for the fences with this hire and go after a Kelly or Stoops even if we don't land them to show the fanbase that the program is committed to trying to win. If we go for another mid-major type, then I think this just signals that the AD is all about the bottom line and doesn't care about winning.

With that being said, I see the following as the most likely options:
1. Venables
2. Norvell
3. Frost
4. Cooter

I have lost all faith in this program.

Bottom line,to get an elite coach, you have to spend money. At least 5 mil per year. Probably more than that. Urban Meyer got 7 mil to come to Ohio State.

Googled most of those names you said were most likely. Do not want.

We don't have a quarterback that fits the system though. Face it, Guarantano is not a dual threat. He had 200 yards rushing his Junior and Senior year and hasn't shown anything to say otherwise this year. That will still set us back 2-3 years even if we hire Kelly, to bring a quarterback in, learn the system, and be experienced enough to make a difference.

I can only speak for myself and other Vols I hang out with...

In my 15+ years as a Vol... I haven't experienced such apathy towards the program. There's a lack of faith that the UTAD & Boosters have what it takes to make Tennessee competitive in the modern SEC.

I don't think the automatic 'fan-boost' they will get with a new hire will be as strong as it has been in past instances... they need to snag a recognizable name (not necessarily Gruden... but also not a Dooley/Jones) and put together some results.

Another no-name hire and I think they'll have a ticket sales problem on their hands in 2018.

I don't see any of those being hired, but who knows. I think we make a more expensive hire, just so currie can get the fan base to shut up.
1. Petrino
2. Les Miles
3. I could actually see JBC being offered the job. I just can't see him leaving the NFL.
4. Leach

Les Miles smh...what is wrong with you ppl

We swung for the fence with Kiffin and hit an infield pop fly.

We panicked with Dooley and got exactly was his incoming resume portended.

We got the 3rd fish we offered in Butch and he did a great job rebuilding the program, but has proven incapable of the next step.

I think it makes sense to return to our roots that brought us decades of success: A Tennessee alum who is upcoming, young and will be loyal and work his ass off for his Alma Mater.

That man is Jim Bob Cooter.

LSU fans would laugh their A** off if we hired Les Miles. Remember when we all said the game had passed Fulmer by? Ditto for Les. Leave the hiring of retreads to the NFL.

Nope. That was not my comment. Look again.
