Tennessee fans catch hell every year for always being the most hyped fanbase for their beloved Vols. I'm the world's worst, I'm the type that predicts an undefeated season each year right up until that 1st loss. Why do i get hyped? In my long history of being a Vol fan I've seen the best our boys can be and the greatness and luck it takes to get there, like most fans we've seen greatness and expect to see it every season, thus there is always hope for that type greatness to return, thus it hypes up a fanbase. Secondly, I grew up listening to John Ward and reading every sports section of every paper I could get my hands on. Once Ward left us Social Media took over and we all know how strong a presence The Vol Nation has across several platforms. Bottom line is that the Vol program has had great media coverage over the years and through time has developed the Vol fanbase into a huge family as access to Vol sports over the years has been 2nd to none. Once again I'm hyped about the upcoming season, 6-0 going into the Bama game would be some kinda fun, I'm going with that till I see different!
*Disclaimer, 5-1 going in would be great too and much more likely.
** 4-2 is possible and would be a big bummer for me.

What does it take for you all to get hyped up in a good way for the upcoming season?

We can't get boatraced by Mullen and the Gators again.

Still think 21 is the season where we will make move. What will get me hyped is seeing strong performances against OU and UF. Need to see that we are close to or we can beat the big boys.

Gonna have to have a super stout defense again. The offense only averages 2 TD's and 2 FGs a game per SEC teams.

Being among the traveling Vol fans is instructive. An Oregon fan described us as true believers. Our fandom is as fundamental to our lives as breathing. At dawn, it’s a new day. We reply, Go Big Orange! If the Vols ever lose, we’ll get ‘em next time. When the Vols win, we celebrate with generosity towards anyone else around. Throughout the long days that the Vols aren’t playing, Go Big Orange! We live it like a creed, like we love our children, like we pray to G-d. With humility and grace. We’re Vol fans. We know everybody can’t be. Sooners, Aggies, Ducks, whatever... How are you? You need something to drink? Are you hungry? Go Big Orange!

Frankly, I get hyped as well every year. Hope springs eternal-Alexander Pope

However, since 2001...just about EVERY year has been met with utter disappointment...at SOME POINT in the season. Last year, it was right off the bat Labor Day Weekend. "Battered Vol Syndrome" is REAL! And I suffer from it annually.

Still, there's NO PLACE I'd rather be on a Fall Saturday afternoon than sitting in Neyland, watching Tennessee Football.

Just waiting on that "life (season) to come..."

“Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.”

― Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

Michigan is the worst..Notre Dame if they fielded a Pop Warner team would be ranked in top 25 too

The next time we are in the SEC title game in Atlanta, expect to see 100k orange-clad people try to fit in and around that stadium

I'm hopeful, but frankly, with The Deuce under center, we have a 24-27 point limit on the offense. Our D looks much improved on paper, so maybe that will be enough.

Honestly, 8-4 headed to a bowl, with ZERO blowout losses (OU, UF, Bama, uga) and a team that stayed in EVERY game would be a successful season in my eyes. 2021 is the year we knock off 1 or 2 of our big three opponents.

I would love to see this happen! But I think that we are still 1 season, or maybe 2, before we start seeing our team being 6-0 going into the Alabama week. But I definitely share your enthusiasm! Go Vols!

I agree that 21' is when we start seeing the true potential of Pruitt recruiting and player development. However, I do think we will see some strong performances against the big boys. And I'm calling 1 upset this year, also.

I view this season as sort of a baby-step towards becoming a competitor in the East. If Pruitt is the guy, I expect to see a noticeable improvement on offense this year. We've already seen the defense improve substantially under Pruitt, so now it's time to sort out the other half.

We had a few sparks offensively last season under Jim Chaney, so we'll see. We just need to turn those sparks into an electric current :)
