Most Frustrating Tennessee Loss You Remember?

I would have to agree that the LSU game in 2001 one still stings when you think about it...made it worse I was there and before the game we were on a bridge and lsu fans walked under us and we gave them heck.....guess wat after the game we had to walk under that bridge and guess wat fans just happened to be on top of that bridge...ouch!!!!!!!!:banghead2::banghead2:

This.

2000 UT vs. UF

Tennessee has a lead late in the game 23-20 over Florida. Florida drives down in the red zone. Jesse Palmer throws a pass to Jabar Gaffney. Gaffney "catches" the ball, and it is almost immediately slapped away by a UT cornerback. Ref calls touchdown. Vols lose.

2003 (I think) UT vs. UGA

This one is hazy to me, someone clear it up. Tennessee fumbles/throws a pick late in the game and UGA takes it to the house to win.

keep seeing LSU 01 and yeah but that's not as bad as the '95 loss.

I must not remember correctly that in '95 we would have been undefeated and national champs if not for a 2nd half blowout by danny freakin wuerffle ?

I could of sworn that we led big and he threw for like 5-6 touchdowns in the 2nd half and it was a complete blowout from that point. This was also Chavis' 1st year as DC.

Would someone correct me if my brain is fried? I suppose some of you can't remember because horror and shock will repress memories.

Your brain is fried if you think for one second that our 1995 team could have been national champions.

If we had beaten Florida, we would have had to play Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl instead of them. And we would have been the ones who got the tar beat out of us, probably worse than the 62-24 they lost by.

The rest of what you said is accurate. Tennessee led that game 30-14 late in the second quarter. It was 30-21 in the third when Jeff Hall missed a chipshot field goal and we lost all momentum. Fulmer really should have gone for six because a field goal wasn't going to make any difference. If we score a touchdown there, I think Florida never gets on a roll, and we win.

But there is no way we could have beaten Nebraska. No one could have. I don't think any team in the whole history of college football could have. The only team to come within two TDs of them only did so because Nebraska send in a bunch of scrubs.

The only difference losing that game made is that we finished No. 3 in the final AP poll instead of No. 2.

It wasn't a lose but felt like one when David Palmer of Ala ran the 2 point conversation to tie.Everybody in the stadium knew they were going right except Chavis and Fulmer

This year's Alabama game has to be pretty high up there.

SEC Championship against LSU is probably the ultimate one for me. (2001)

+1

I was there and remember feeling pretty good about everything at halftime. That was the most miserable post-game/ride home that I've ever endured (if there as a smiley face throwing up, I'd insert it here).

There's several, but the one that sticks in my mind the most (because i was there) was Ark. kick a FG with 4 seconds to win. After that loss, I vowed to never go to another game coached under johnny majors.

The worst thing about the Alabama loss this past year was the fact that I drove to Tuscaloosa to see it live. It was a long drive back to Knoxville with that on my mind...

It wasn't even a loss, but the tie vs Bama when everyone in the damn south knew David Palmer was gonna run the ball except UT's defense. Boooyah!!!! Tie game and I threw a beer bottle through a sliding glass door

Without a doubt for me was the 1999 Fiesta Bowl. That was a disgusting game. I thought we could stop them with the defense we had and they took the football and shoved it up our @#$!!! There were two drives in the second half for over 90 yards every playstraight up the gut. That was frustrating to watch. The catch no catch and hobnail boot were bad losses but this one stung. Those cornfeds told us what they were going to do and then they did it.

An interesting note I read on Wikipedia about the '00 UT UF game...the Ref who made the call received multiple death threats and has not Ref'd a game in Knoxville since...

That so-called ref was Alama Mathews, who played tight end for the Vanderbilt Commodores. If you ever get to review the game film, he starts signaling T.D. the INSTANT Gafney makes contact with the ball; forget possesion. He hated U.T. and I'll never forgive him for that act of pure revenge.

The Florida game years back before video review where their kid "caught" a phantom TD pass just across the end zone line to win the game. Basically the ball hit him between the numbers he dropped it and the zebra was already raising his hands giving the TD signal. The '08 UCLA game someone mentioned stunk it up as well. I was sitting in my favorite LA sports bar assured of a win against their first year coach and we flopped horribly. They still to this day razz me when I show my face there, which I don't do to often these days. Love the bar and people hate the bad memory.

Ref was Alama Mathews on the "phantom catch". Mathews played tight end for Vandy and hated U.T. You're right, he was signaling T.D. the instant the ball made contact with Gaffney. No possesion; no catch. U.T. robbed.

After seeing Roman Harper yesterday in the Super Bowl, reminded me of the 6-3 lose to Bama.

there are so many it is hard to pick just one.

1995 florida (16-pt lead at 30-14 ending in 62-37 defeat)

2000 v. florida (phantom TD)

2001 SEC championship game v. LSU

2007 SEC Championship game v. LSU

1998 Orange Bowl v. Nebraska (Peyton's last game)

2009 Alabama

Every loss is frustrating, especially when they are to florida or alabama, but these stick out in my mind as the most gut wrenching!

I was there! The offficiale hands were up before he caught the ball, and he never had control of the ball befor it was slapped away

Uh....we won the national title at the 1999 Fiesta Bowl. You mean 2000?
