Was every passing play by BG, the receiver was behind the defender. Are our DB's that slow or are they playing to close?

the continued press coverage on the outside was frustrating. I figured we would have abandoned that game plan after a few deep balls.

Sutton played well. Mosely has a way to go, but i think he will get there...just hope it is this week:)

From my perspective is that they were a little too close and they never seemed too read the receivers eyes and look for the ball.Couple that with a perfect throw spells trouble. Defending an offense like BG sometimes requires a more of a bend but don't break philosophy. Yeah BG looked good throwing down the field but looked a little less than than average inside the 20's. A better surge from the Dline would have helped as well.

I am asking this because on the instant replays of a big BG passing play, Mosely and Abernathy would engage in a bump of the receiver and the receiver would simply roll around the DB and immediately had a step or two on the DB. Mosely and Abernathy didn't have the speed to overcome this. On the instant replays of Sutton, he never engaged in a bump. He simply played the receiver and made sure the receiver was in front of him.

The missed tackles were more concerning to me than the secondary. When the DB coach isn't there, you'd expect problems in the secondary (maybe not this many). But the missed tackles in the 2nd and 3rd quarter were extremely frustrating.

No pressure on QB. That's the biggest problem. Disappointed in d line play.

This... I thought this was going to be a strength but Barnett kept crashing down n qb had plenty of room to run. .

Now ol n dl a concern. We ran well but let's do it against real competition n dl is suspect because no push against bg..really..

This week will set the tone for the season..go vols

It looked to me like we were getting some pressure but the QB always seemed to get the ball off just in time. Also he was quick on his feet and did a nice job getting out of the pocket. We lost contain on the edge multiple times, which was not good.

I'll have to watch the reply, but based on the eye test it seemed like we were getting through their OL fairly successfully ...

Something is or was up today. We played press with a single safety. That's not our style. I'm curious to hear post game.

We had some pressure from the outside but absolutely no push up the middle so the QB just easily and calmly stepped up and made his throws.

I was surprised that Dieter wasn't covered more by Sutton, especially in the first half

Put Sutton on Dieter and some other receiver would have destroyed us. Dieter isn't a terrible receiver, but he's not a world beater either. He wasn't doing anything special, our CBs were just sucking.

Dieter has the Indiana state record for most receiving yards in a game, he's the real deal. Injuries derailed him last year so we didn't get to see what he could do.

As a side note, Ronnie Moore who played in the second half was recruited by Butch Jones when he was at Cincinnati.

Having a near front row seat to many of their sideline passes I can tell you our guys did a poor job of sensing the ball coming in. Some of that was they were struggling to stay in step with them. BG had some good recievers.

I feel like BG ran plays that our defense had never seen or prep for. Our secondary was playing soft. Coach Willie was not there, but I bet he will make sure the secondary will be ready next week.
But I will give the BG QB credit, he was very accurate.

Wonder how much the loss of Michael Williams has hurt this secondary? What a shame.

You do understand that every deep pass, whether covered or not, was absolutely right on the money every time. Butch even said something in his presser about it. Yes, our secondary got beat several times, but literally every deep ball was the perfect pass. Dude is a Damn good QB. We also played no zone which means very little over head help. You have one safety who basically has to pick a side. Trust me, you will see a lot more zone next week where you will have two safeties to help out.
