Wasn't even in the UT game, but was the absolute drubbing Miami put on App St in Boone. The way some of the fans pumped up App St on here after UT struggled mightily and lucked out in OT, I would have expected them to beat Miami. Instead, Miami beat them by FIVE touchdowns. FIVE! I don't always believe these types of analyses work, but in this case I think it is worth considering. There is no way UT should have struggled with App St that much. This team is sleep walking and better wake up quick.

A couple of things to note:

Appy State's stud running back went out early preventing AS from controlling the clock.

AS didn't have all summer to gameplan for Miami.

Also I fully believe that if Cam Sutton doesn't muff that punt against AS that game goes somewhat differently.

Most Concerning thing for me from yesterday is there is been little to no improvement in this team.

OL- no improvement
QB- No Improvement
Penalties- no improvement
Play calling - no improvement
Desire to play- no improvement we are asleep for the most part.
Hopes for the future- no improvement

That's why I don't always buy into using the common opponents analysis. However, even with the above, we should have beaten them by 20+.

Sleepwalking is the best way to describe it. There is no urgency or intensity at all except for maybe about 2 quarters of the VA Tech game. It is going to be hard to suddenly turn that on come Saturday. Especially with the ridiculous number of injuries UT has sustained.

I have given J Dobbs the benefit of a doubt, but believe he is not good enough to lead us to a championship. Even with Del rio out, I don't feel good at all about our chances. Very disappointed in his long ball. We should use two QBs

This on App game and the penalty against TKjr on the punt return they gave OHIO a 1st down and led to a FG.
In both games instead of breaking their will we are assisting their players in to keep them playing inspired, teams have a few players that are ready to give up if you will just not make mistakes early and keep the foot down.

Very few coaches have the ability to use a 2 QB system for their game plan. Jones is not one of them.

Most concerning thing is the glaring problems aren't getting fixed. The fans see the problems, announcers, journalists, cheerleaders, the hot dog guy, Stevie Wonder, but either the coaches don't see the problems or are wholly incapable of fixing them.

Ohio was in the redzone 5 times yesterday, and the only reason they had 19 points instead of 35 is because they are Ohio.

If Ohio is able to drive down the field on this defense, what do you think the offenses of our next four opponents are going to do?

That's cool, but no comment on Virginia Tech's 49-0 beatdown of a decent Boston College team on the same day?

this was easy to see coming. Miami could pass protect and thus throw. that changes everything if we are able to do that against App.

Even Auburn finally gave up on their starter and tried someone else. Why would it hurt, when we go several series and do nothing, to try someone else at qp. Three things. 1 Could not do much worse. 2 Might be surprised by what we find out. Team might really perk up. 3 Dobbs, if he is as smart as is thought, may see some things that could help him. Now, refer back to number 1...

Boston College who was 3-9 last year, and struggled with UMass for most of their game this year? They are a 5/7 team at best this year. VT will not be hanging their hat on that win at the end of the season.

I think Ohio was far better than App State. I think Ohio has a better qb, better RB, better WRs and much better DL. Tennessee threw the ball much more and much better vs Ohio than they did vs App State. Tennessee kept Ohio in game with numerous penalties in critical situations, turnovers and stupid busts.

Not surprised at all of Miami blow out of App state. Mounties went all in on Tennessee. Miami saw everything App Stste had, prepared for it and talent showed up.
