More to UT Violations story...

I just wondered aloud how Monte Kiffin would adjust to the college game....do I think UT will have the No. 3 defense in the nation again? No.

I do believe the offense will be significantly better, however, and that should help the defense out quite a bit.

Sometimes, I think, people just look for reasons to attack the messenger instead of just reading the blog/story for what it is.

Use the information in the story -- consider a different perspective. Don't be the "seven minute abs" guy like in the movie "Something about Mary''

You have a lot of nerve to say that to anyone! You really seem to be an arrogant man who shuns anyone who disagrees with you. You have quickly become my least favorite "journalist" in the country and that is saying a lot because Paul Krugman used to hold that title.

Griff, since you love Auburn so much maybe you can go there. Please?

Or hey, how about a job being Fulmer's caddy?

Well Griff, still claiming that Foster will break the rushing record? You made that statement with 2 games left last season, remember or should you review the film? Your lack of knowledge of football is only surpassed by your lack of writing skill. You are an embarressment to all professional sportswriters as evidenced by your need to spam the boards in a pitiful attempt to gain readership. Despite your weak claims to the contrary your agenda has been evident to all for several months now and has become a sad commentary on your professional and personal failures. Be a good boy now and go find a different fanbase to antagonize and a different program to habitually slander.

Well Griff I know how you don't like to do research so I did a little for you about Monte. His time at Tampa how they ranked and 5 year prior to him getting. there.
Year/rank
08-9
07-2
06-17
05-1
04-5
03-5 /Sapp last year
02-1 /Super bowl
01-6
00-9
99-3
98-2
97-3
96-11 Monte first year

Pre-Monte Tampa
95-27
94-21
93-22
92-25
91-11

You may also want to note that Monte also coached at more than NC state in college. He was an asst coach at Nebraska and Arkansas.
I guess the Monte was just lucky to be at Tampa when he was.

Also this assertion that he will struggle with NCAA offenses when he clearly owned NFL offenses is nuts. I mean, this is just a guess on my part but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that NFL offenses are a little more complicated than college offenses.

There is a difference between college and NFL -- ask Steve Spurrier and Charlie Weis.

It will be interesting to see how Monte does -- he is well respected, but this is a different game to a degree. I think having Coach O will help him a great deal.

Hard hitting analysis.

I'm aware Monte was at N.C. State -- I don't remember the Wolfpack winning a national title.

If you'll remember, the Tampa Bay Bucs were a great defense filled with great players....I think UT has a lot of talent on defense, but I highly doubt it will rank in the top five in the nation, or perhaps even the top 10.

Coach O is the key staff member on defense, IMO

Why not ask Carrol or Saban? Also ask Spurrier and see where he had his most success.

You might find this interesting Griff. Monte was DC at Arkansas in 1977 and 1978. In those 2 years the Hogs lost 3 games and in 77 was in a 5 way tie for national champion. In 77 they gave up an average of 8.6 points per game. The 77 team trounced the #2 OU sooners in the Orange bowl 31-6 with 4 starters being suspended for the game by Holtz.

So if history tells us anything I think it's that Monte knows how to coach defense either in the NFL or NCAA.

It's obvious Griff has found that being a pessimist about everything with our program is going to get him more hits than being optimistic. And it appears to be working. The beauty of being a pessimist is that our team hasn't played their first game under our new coach. So there is no way to defend Lane's credibility, or back up that Monte still has a few good years left in him or that his system WILL work on the collegiate level. Oddly enough, for a guy that wants to beat up on Lane, Griff appears to be doing the same type of thing Lane is........kick up some dust to be seen and acknowledge by the public.

I might also add that Monte's 1978 defense at Arkansas only gave up 12.8 points per game. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think that he can handle NCAA offenses.

I keep forgetting why O said he came to UT in the first place. Could someone refresh my memory?

Quit making Griff look so bad. He's a hard working journalist.

I couldn't make heads or tails of the blog. Either where it was going, intended to go, eventually went, or what it picked up along the way. So, clearly, I'm stupid.

If anyone can think of a D-coordinator whom they would rather have than Monte Kiffin, I'd like to know who it is.

Honestly. Please name the more preferred choice, if you believe that such exists.

Coach O specifically made mention of having the chance to work with Monte as the reason he came to Tennessee. Not that Coach O knows anything about the college game / coaching / defenses, having spent last year with the Saints, following being fired as HC of the Rebels. Clearly, he's stupid, too.

All these points are faulty,,, however blogs and opinions are like belly buttons so if you feel the need to try and perfect your craft, then you have a ways to go.

Nice guy. Takes a while to transition in to the game. Has a good unit to work with -- Eric Berry is the best in college football.

Just don't think they will be top five or top 10, and I don't think there was a lot that needed to be fixed. Florida SID said UT was the best defense Gators faced last year.

Hard to argue when you look at Tebow's numbers in that game.

Actually, I think it's rather easy to argue. Florida's offense could have strolled onto the field wearing blindfolds and it wouldn't have made a difference....the Gators clearly took the foot off the pedal.

Even if Chavis was here they would have taken a step back.

Except they were playing with a short field for the most part, running the clock and calling a pretty conservative game if I remember correctly.

Not to mention the Gators were starting just about every drive in UT territory, at least when Brandon James didn't return a punt all the way for a touchdown.
