I was thinking about Golden situation again. Golden was a BP recruit and player. I know the NCAA came in but if the Plagiarism, cheating, etc rumors are true, you would think NCAA would be knocking at our doors again suspecting other players doing the same, or whatever.. I don't think TN wanted to give the NCAA a chance to even think TN may have known what was going on.

At this point, seeing how they've done nothing against Miami and Auburn, if they came poking around I'd hope UT would tell them to get lost.

I don't think it's the NCAA's say in a matter of plagarism... It's the school's policy, not the NCAA's (even if it's ethically/morally wrong to cheat, it's not under their rules).

I really don't know why the NCAA would care for something like this. This is a school issue, not an NCAA issue, unless it is widespread. I can guarantee you that UT would send any other player packing as well.

I didn't read the articles, but the reason the NCAA gets involved is if it is a mass scandal and athletic officials know and look the other way. If the basketball coaches had known about Golden and covered it up, then maybe the NCAA gets involved. But they didn't, and this is strictly a school issue. If Trae Golden was a basketball player or a business major, he would be forced to leave even though athletes are under more of a microscope.

I skimmed the UNC one. The key words were "systematic" and "improper help from tutors."

UNC's primary problem was allowing athletes to pass a class that wasn't offered by the university. I would say the NCAA should get involved with that.

Was he not a high GPA guy out of HS? If so, this makes no sense that grades or cheating comes into play. Still, maybe he had issues in HS but it was never talked about.

It's a lot easier to cheat/plagiarize in HS and get away with it than it is in college.

I just figured high GPA kid in high school translates to decent in college. Isn't that what people are bankin' on with the Dobbs football kid? I agree. Totally different but wow. I wish Trae the best!

Here is how I suspect the NCAA works. If the NCAA really messed with any of the top 15 football programs in the nation, then I would say that the university presidents would fight back.

So, when a major violation has been committed at a top 15 program, they give them the benefit of the doudt and give them the least severe punishment possible.
This way, it will not affect the programs wallet. Such as a bowl game, etc.

However; if Ball State or Tennessee Tech committed the same violation as the top 15 program, then they would severely punish them, as a way to supposedly set the example to the general public.

The lesson to be learned is that if you are a top 15 program, you can do you dirty deeds but don't let your dirty deeds gain alot of media attention, because then the NCAA would have to do something. However; if you are not a top 15 program, you better be squeeky clean or the hammer will be dropped on you......

I don't think Golden's transfer translates into more problems. I'm not an expert at this, but if UT is unwilling to invite the NCAA to campus with open arms to look at everything they please, there are problems.
