Seems to me that most of us (myself included) had no clue what REAL recruiting was. After following this staff for just a few months, I will say that the old staff doesn't have ANYTHING recruiting wise on this one.

I have been thinking the same thing. The level of intensity and effort put forth are much higher than I ever saw under the former staff. If CLK can get the team performing on the field like I think he can, I think we will really see the fruits of their recruiting labor.

I credit most of my interest in recruiting to Meat Market. Awesome book.

I would like to read that book someday, but right now keeping up with offers and what kids are saying about our school seem to be taking up most of my free time. :)

What makes you say this? UT has always pulled in highly ranked classes.

11 players leaving shows me the previous staff's level of evaluating talent. Filling classes with stars and bodies to hold up appearances isn't exactly a winning formula.

Not as of late, 2001 was the last time we had the talent to contend with anyone. We have to get better talent, but we also have to develop it better. UF, Bama, LSU, and UGA have been better at both in recent memory.

Maybe the previous staff evaluated them for their system? Some people simply dont like change as well...so its no surprise to see players leave when you have totally new coaching staffs..trust me..ive been through this a couple times.

I don't get this. Fulmer won a National Championship and up until the last few years, had some of the best talent in the nation. Things dropped off at the end, but the guy wasn't a complete incompetent. Fulmer could recruit

The players we have gotten in the past 5 years, save a few GREAT exceptions, have just not been that good. Seeing them leave is proof of what our future goals are and the direction we are heading. You got something good in Urban, I believe we did as well with Lane.

Fulmer's big strength was that he was an excellent closer. He was great in the living room with the families. Earlier on he had the assistants to go out and do the legwork (Rodney Garner, etc...), but once the assistant coaches became more stagnant, a lot of the early evaluation and constant pressure dropped off.

Fulmer won a NC on the coat tails and momentum that Majors had created and the fact that Tennessee and Florida were the only two teams in the SEC and the 90's that got the talent they wanted. There wasn't the level of competition there is now and the coaching level is at a much higher level than it was then. Fulmer couldn't keep good assistants because he was loyal for one, and out of touch (IMO) with what it took to win in the SEC now. The current staffs energy level and organization with pay off with wins in the future. Fulmer just didn't have the energy that Kiffin and Co. have now.

I can assure you my friend it is far from euphoria. This is about hard work and energy levels. The coaches that are here are just amazing when it comes to that. 18-20 hour days are the norm with this staff.

Look, I was as fed up with Fulmer as everyone else and I yelled at the man at every home game this past season. It was time for him to go, but it's getting pretty ****ing ridiculous how people act like he didn't accomplish anything while he was here and if he did, it was due to someone else. The guy was a great coach and he had his time here. I don't see the need to continue to bash him.

Guy was a Legend...and they are hard to replace..LK may replace him..but only time will tell if he can fill those shoes of what Fulmer did while he was at UT..he does deserve more respect than he gets by many though.

I'm not throwing him under the bus, just stating what we all saw in the past 6 years. He wouldn't have accomplished half he did without the assistants he had in the late 90's and Peyton Manning but not taking away from winning the NC either. Most of the people here may only get to see that one in their lifetime possibly, but hopefully we have one or two coming in the near future.

Compliments for the coach who you handed some of the worst losses to isn't exactly an apology. :)

Ok, and I'm just saying let's not get carried when we are yet to see this coaching staff in action. Have they delivered so far? Ya damn skippy. But Fulmer delivered for over a decade before the wheels fell off.

Call me in 2-3 years when we actually know something about this recruiting class.
