Did I hear the number of wildcard spots has been increased by two? Do most view this as a positive or negative?

3 division winners are in, and now two wild cards in each league play a one game playoff to see who is in the Division series

What's the logic behind a one game playoff? That seems to me like an odd solution.

Grabs attention. Exciting game. Gives more teams a chance to make the playoffs. Puts more emphasis on winning division so teams fight til the end.

I think it is a fine idea.

I like the idea of more teams having a chance to make the playoffs, I'm just one sure how I feel about a one game "series". Should add some excitement though.

Thats the main reason. One game playoffs will receive plenty of attention. And, this year at least, it'll make the schedule a little more tight. So a team's pitching depth in the playoffs will be even more important, instead of being able to slate our travel days and only use 3 or so pitchers.

It'll be interesting to see how much it plays into deals at the trade deadline.

I've heard that angle discussed. You would think it will definitetly have an impact since more teams Will be fighting for those two additional spots.

It should be an interesting year. I can't wait for the season to start.

I am unbelievably excited for this season. Incredibly.

It can't get here fast enough

I like the one game playoff idea...despite the way it ended for the red sox last year that was by far the most incredible end of a regular season I've ever seen. They are definitely trying to recreate that with this new system, I hope it works

wish they would have taken it a step further and implement Bob Costas' idea. The 2 wildcards play a 3 game set Tues-Thur then start the Division Series on Friday. That creates a real advantage and reward for the teams that actually won their division.

Love the idea of a "knockout round". Wild Cards should have to jump through hoops. They've had it way too easy.

I disagree. The ultimate "we'll get em tomorrow" sport has been reduced to a one game play-in system to generate faux interest and drama.

A 3 game set, sure. 1 game isn't representative, IMO.

A three-game series would seem more logical to me. However, I'm guessing a one-game series is much easier to incorporate into the schedule.

Agree.

I think it's good for baseball. Game 162 was so exciting. Now you have that chance every year with the one game playoff.

I love the sport of baseball. I think the season should be 150 games, not 162. But we need a little more excitement in the game.

This provides it.

We can't have a 2010 situation where the Yankees go, "Well screw it. We are in, who cares about homefield, let's just rest everybody" in the MIDDLE OF A DIVISION RACE. That can't happen.

Now, also Division titles mean a little more.

Why can't it?

Because then you cruise for an entire month like the Yankees did and winning your division means nothing.

They put themselves in position to be able to cruise, so why can't they?

NBA teams throw games down the stretch all the time- for different playoff seeding, for more ping pong balls, etc.
NFL teams bench players all the time for the same reasons.

I see your point, but it isn't a baseball only problem and it certainly doesn't support a one game play-in.
