Guys.. let me break it down for you video game nerds who don't get actual football. I don't care how good you are in Madden or NCAA Football.. play the computer on all madden vs a 95 overall and play as a 72 overall you wont win.

butch and co cant do much.. they were avg 8 yards per carry before they were even touched.
ugh

Both.

Talent doesn't excuse them running the same 3 plays over and over for over 400 yards on the ground though.

Butch sold a load of BS on hiring the "best staff in America".

These defensive guys are terrible.

At this point it can't be a coaching issue. It is a depth and talent and experience problem.

We have 23 four star players on the entire roster. We can't compete with those that have had consistent elite recruiting the past 4 years. We will get there.

And yes stars/recruiting rankings do matter in the big pitcher.

i was looking for both, the Vols are short on talent and depth and it looks like a steep learning curve for the coaches first year in the SEC too

All you hear about, no matter if its on the radio or tv is about our team speed, or lack there of. Lack of team speed was our downfall today! Reinforcements ARE coming Vol fans, just hang in there!

I'd say more talent, but the special teams coaching was appalling to say the least. Kick it out of bounds

Both are equally bad and both are feeding off each other to make things worse. Butch deserves to be lit up for this loss.

Talent, GOING IN 6 AND 6, we got to win the next 2 then we are right on schedule, let this play out , now Vandy has a decent football team but we got them at home so we will win then Kentucky, now we need to win the Vandy game bad, never thought I would say this but for recruiting we win these next 2 and hold the class together then right on schedule, now I will admit really unhappy with the D looks like we would have made adjustments for them 2 plays they ran over and over, coach will weed out at the end of the season lets give him time.

I don't know how you can separate it and blame it solely on one or the other. With performances this bad, it has to be coaching as well as talent. These players were recruited by plenty of other schools. There's no way we should be playing like we have the talent of an Arkansas State. Wait, I forgot, Arkansas State actually held them to fewer yards and points.

The base problem is talent without question.

But as much as I do like Jones, I'm not sold at all on the staff he brought here. And that is a very important part of his job. If he fails to surround himself with the right people to compete in this conference, then he ultimately fails as a coach.

This game was a defensive failure. We lack great speed but speed can be compensated for by technique and scheme. We have a talent issue at some key spots but the DC has been horrid to this point.

Is it a pitcher with sweet tea or lemonade?

I agree with you. The only way this gets better is better recruits. People always wonder if its a lack of talent or coaching. Well both have to be working to have a consistent winning program. Sometime a bad coach can make good talent look bad. But sometimes even a good coach will make some poor decisions in a game or through out a season and when you have a lack of talent bad decisions are exacerbated. Clearly we have a talent issue. I think CBJ is a good football coach- he's not immune to making mistakes but when you have a talent problem like we do it'll make his mistakes cost us more. But its going to take good talent to get back to winning. This is why I think the future is bright. CBJ went 4-8 his first year at Cincy...but then went 10-3, 9-3...hold on people it'll get better.

And Auburn has 25 four star players on their roster; not exactly a big difference.

Special teams was very disappointing! There for all of you guys that think I'm too optimistic. We screwed the pooch on our coverage today!
