Well they interviewed chavis and surprise.He said we didn't tackle well geez you think.He says we will tackle better next game.Thank john i feel better now.Another snake oil salesman.:censored:

I get the idea that coaches believe that blaming a bad performance on poor tackling somehow absolves them of responsibility. It's as though we are supposed to assume that something so fundamental as tackling is not with the rubric of D1A coaching. This is not directed completely at Chavis but is more of a general observation.

It better get better by the next game as I'm going. A loss with the post game traffic and long drive home...nuts to that.

(I'll be the guy wearing the orange shirt...be on the lookout.)

Not just tackling. I think some, one guy especially, believes if you continually harp on ref calls, player performance, a couple of calls that didn't go your way,and going into fantasy land and changing the outcome of a couple of plays, absolves you of any responsibility.

well how many 3rd and longs do you have to give up year after year to see some trend. poor tech year after year. giving the qb 5 hours to sit in the pocket and read the field like its sunday brunch

yep. the bend but don't break strategy hasn't been overwhelmingly effective for several years now. everyone knows they will get a cushion from the UTK secondary and most coaches try to exploit it.

I agree. they used to bend but come up with that big sack or something to kill the drive but aint working anymore. got to be more aggressive these days i think.

maybe he is a good coach, it's just his players that aren't tackling, aren't attacking the ball, and look pathetically slow.

we'll have to wait and see how they handle 4th and 8 with the game on the line.

Trust me, we've been using bend-not-break strategies at Cal for two years because of the defensive problems. It drives us insane that it takes us three quarters to remember how to properly tackle someone. I can't remember the last time Cal had a sack.

But I'll take it this time :).

For the most part, our players are not true rookies to the game. They sure tackled Cal well last year. Either Forsett is better than Lynch, or our D simply did not show up in Berkeley.

31 points should be enough for us to beat anyone on our schedule. I have been a Chavis fan, but tonight, we chased and reacted, rarely attacked the offense, and missed tackles when we had the opportunity. One of the worst defensive efforts I have ever seen.

Our inability to put pressure on the qb has been a problem recently. But keep this game in perspective, cal is very good on offense.

Its obvious we dont have the talent on the d-line. The more surprising thing was watching our linebackers get punished. I thought they were going to be one of the strengths of the team.

But is that O-line indicative of the O-lines we are going to see the rest of the year in the SEC? If not then maybe we can get to a QB once in awhile. One that has cement feet, but if we see lines like this in the SEC other teams are just going to push us around and score more then we can.

I keep hearing people say that we score enough points to win a game. I don’t think they were watching the game. The other team scored at will, and 2 more then we did. We can score 50+ a game, but if they score 60+ a game then it really doesn’t matter now dose it? You have to be able to stop someone.

If we don't have major improvement from the D-Line, and the secondary(I think they improve alot over the year) then we are in big trouble. Berry was a true freshman out there, and looked like a man amongst boys.

How many time we missed the 1st tackle or even the 2nd just absolutely drives me furious. Cal did make some big plays, but keep missing tackles after tackles is not Tennessee football.

Your right we haven't had a good tackling team in well forever.I guess 05 was a decent squad.They could at least get a team stopped.Let me ask you something.We seem here lately to be missing either a defense every year or a offense as in 05.If phil is really this great recruiter it seems we would have more talent doesn't it?

we gave them the game with a punt return and missed tackles
