More Boilermakers out

Well not really. They're equated earlier strains of the virus with Omicron. Omicron has contributed to the deaths of a handful of people worldwide. South Africa which appears to have been ground zero for that variant had no deaths, few if any hospitalizations, and reported symptoms similar to a bad cold. There is NO rational reason to treat this variant like earlier strains... and it was foolish to cancel football games over those variants considering how rarely young people were severely impacted.

why are dozens of basketball games being cancelled everyday? just being foolish?

I don't believe we flinched at playing Bama, Georgia, and 6 other SEC teams this year.

agree. talking more about fans that relish playing other teams that are short handed.

players want to play. coaches want to play... coaches want this practice time. there are tons of reasons that people in programs want to play these games, its a growth time for program development.

Others outside the programs drive the virus concerns.

I'm guessing the test just says you have Covid, not which variant but Omicron seems to be less deadly and more of a common cold. Fever isn't even in the list which typical means the body is fighting something hard. Also high contagious fast moving viruses tend to become less deadly, not always because they can live if they kill the host.
Still think it was man made in a lab...
I'm just hoping the game doesn't get canceled at the last minute like the UT vs Mem game did..

I'll never understand this line of thinking. Beating someone that's nowhere near their best means exactly what? If it's just a win hell let's move to the MAC. We can get all kinds there
It means the team played whomever was put in front of them, just like they did against Bama, UGA, etc all year.

If they want to cancel it, I imagine they need to do it pretty quickly. With the game being fairly early in the day Thursday, there'll be folks traveling maybe even as early as today and certainly tomorrow and Wednesday.

Hell!! That didn't bother Memphis High!! What was it 30 minutes before tip off??

I totally disagree with you. Recruits (unless they are really dialed into your program) are not going to see who played and who did not. They will see Tennessee won 8 games with a new coach and a new offensive and defensive scheme. They will think Tennessee really outperformed expectations and consider is as a team on the rise instead of a team buried in the SEC cellar.
I agree

I wouldn't debate anything you said.

My point is there are still protocols in place all the way from Federal / CDC level down to each individual school level. IMO, schools are just following whatever the protocols are for their environment to execute testing and make decisions. As has been since the start of this these protocols end up in conflict at times as situations change. Takes time for new information to filter down.

You are correct
It appears you guys have never played a football game. You play for the fun of playing no matter who you are playing. When the Big games come along it is mighty sweet when you can win and not so sweet when you lose. But remember, you are playing the game because you love football, not because some fan some where wants to make the season’s schedule

CDC just knocked quarantine down to 5 days so must not be too worried

There's a difference in "relishing" a team's injuries/missing players and not lamenting them. I'm not happy about it but I'm sure not sad about it either.

I have had COVID twice, in February before they closed everything down and again (Delta) in August. I am fully immunized with booster and have antibodies from both the infection and immunizations according to my MD. My wife has O- blood will not get the vaccine and has no antibodies and can not seem to get it. She has been going everywhere and recently retired from a medical facility. Go figure.

The original COVID was like a mild case of the flu and the second time like a light cold. I am a senior slightly obese diabetic male out in the work force every day with lots of exposure.

Just mysterious to me how the disease is picking winners and losers.
It’s the weirdest thing. Both of my parents have one foot in the grave, and have been that way for years. Neither ever leave the house, and they have full time care givers that come and go, but not much else traffic. My mother has not had her shots, and made it through her bout with Covid without a hitch. My vaccinated dad had it twice-first time a little rough, second time no problem. Had they been the original case studies, the media would have had a very difficult time convincing us to run for cover.

Rocket... if you look at the Purdue Logo, it is an old steam engine from back in the 1800's. the steam engine was powered by a large boiler that burned wood and heated water to propel the train forward. Hope that helps.
Also, Purdue and Tennessee are similar as land grant universities with strong agricultural and engineering programs. Both schools also have outstanding Veterinary Schools.

Sorry for the ordeal you and your family. Unfortunately this happens to a multitude of people in the U S and around. We are fortunate that we have the medical facilities and physicians to treat those who have complications from this virus, but we have to realize that about 800,000 people in the US have died from complications from Covid.

Protocols have constantly changed ever since COVID arrived. They will continue to do so.

again, my only point is there are protocols to be followed. I'm not arguing the severity of the virus at all.

I'm OK with them living with the "what ifs". What if UT had all of its players available for the Ole Miss game? What if Calloway catches that 4th down pass vs UF giving UT a 1st down and boost of confidence? What if Hooker had had a great August and won the job from the start? What if Calbert had not been injured before the 1st game?

If all of the "ifs" in this season had gone UT's way then they would be playing in a higher bowl against a better opponent.

Just a heads up. Other people have different experiences than you every second of every day. 7.9 billion people to be exact. Leave it to the scientists and medical professionals who completely disagree with you, as it is very unlikely that you have the capability to understand anything outside of your immediate bubble.

Hard for me to be excited about beating teams that are crippled by missing players. Much rather both teams be at full strength and to win against teams at their best.

Tennessee could always move to the Southern Conference if we want to just play teams with no chance to win..
Missing players has always been part of the game. You can have your rathers all you want, but a win is a win. As I stated earlier, no one is going to look back on this game and see which team had more players out. Even if they did, they wouldn’t change the letter in the W/L column due to it. You think the national champs every year care how many players were out from opposing teams? You think our players would care if we beat a bama team who could barely field a team? If we wanted to play teams at full health every week we could always just move to the …… oh wait that doesn’t exist.

So, what exactly is there for anyone to disagree with his family's experience and the personal choices they've made per those choices?

I suspect you are smuggling in an appeal to popularity fallacy, as well as a "No true Scot" fallacy. As soon as you generalize "the scientific and medical community" as a uniform opinion to support your argument, you become a bit transparent.

Your post reads as though "you [don't] have the capability to understand anything outside of your immediate bubble".
