Monte on Tennessee

Monte did a good, job. We had a hard knock deff. Just our offense couldn't keep them off the field long enough to catch a break. I like Wilcox. Having a young D-cord, he can keep up with the young O-cords and what they are doing, especially with the spread being so big. JMO

EXACTLY ...Auburn had 84 offensive snaps and came up with 24 points ...Florida turned in their lowest output of the season ...Bama , Sc, and Georgia ..give him a proset and he shuts it down ....

Sure there was ol' miss ...but at that point on safety was out and they were playing 3rd string linebackers .

Not a bad DC ...just neede the offense to keep them off the field more and out of tight ball games so they could tee off.

I hope Wilcox can dial it up that good given that he inherited the depth delimma

That has to be one of the most poorly written articles I have ever read. And I've read the Daily Beacon.

My knowledge of Bowling Green is they used to alternate between Kentucky and Tennessee as being the opening game. Kind of a UT Martin type team, should be an automatic win thing. Honestly, how many people out of 1000 know who their coach is or cares.

You said our offense improved under Kiffin, the point of what I said was Dave Clawson sucked how could it not improve. You said he went to Bowling Green, sorry I hadn't been tracking him, wasn't overly concerned about what became of him.

Not sure what the percentage of Vols fans is that know where Clawson ended up, but I'd say it's fairly high. I said Kiffin improved every offense he's coordinated. USC, Oakland, and Tennessee.

Urban Meyer started his head coaching career at Bowling Green just an FYI.

Clawson had a WR set an NCAA record for catches last year at Bowling Green.

Monte did not impress me at all last year.....I'm glad we have Wilcox

Justin Wilcox did a pretty damn good job against my Ducks last year. He was a very fun college player for the Ducks, an absolute "out there" personality. Of course his dad wasn't too shabby either. NFL Hall of Fame and all. So it's a very strong football family.

Less than 10% of Vol Nation sang any sort of Dave Clawson praise while he was here. I didn't see anything from him indicating he belonged in the job of Offensive coordinator at UT. If you want to spend time worrying about where he went after UT and what he's doing now, that's your business. I could care less. He's not at UT and that's what matters.

We paid how much to get Kiffin? We had to pay to dispose of Phil Fulmer at an undisclosed amount that's in the millions, we paid the Kiffin's millions to come here. We spent a sheite load of money. I'd say the expectation of that is that Kiffin was better than what we had (Fulmer and Dave Clawson). If you go trade your old pickup in for a new one and in the process spend several thousand dollars, the expectation is for the new one to be better than the old one or you'd have saved your money and kept what you had.

Now, back to the original premise of this discussion, Monte Kiffin saying something to the effect that Tennessee is a bush league program along side USC. Again, as far as I'm concerned the Kiffins can kiss my :shaking2: . That said, I'm not impressed with what I saw out of Monte Kiffin. Yes he has talent, and yes he did a good job while he was here, BUT one thing you learn as an employer is that an employee who doesn't show up as agreed, quits, doesn't live up to their contract isn't worth diddly regardless of their ability or talent.

Monte, his son, and the whole crew came here with the promise that we'll put UT back where it was in the 90's. They didn't anywhere near fulfill their promise, and for that reason I don't have any respect for him regardless of his ability. He didn't live up to his promise, it's that simple.

Yep. You've got it. Clawson has been excellent everywhere he's been but here. Monte has a lifetime of NFL excellence and had the Vols ranked 17th in the nation last year. Both of them clearly suck and the UT roster has had nothing to do with any problems we've had lately.

So the intelligent thing to have done would have been kept Phillip Fulmer and Dave Clawson, paid Monte Kiffin 3 million.

We'd have saved the money we wasted buying out Phillip Fulmer, money wasted on Lane Kiffin, Ed O and the rest of the crew. Wwe'd have had a genius for an OC and another genius for Defensive Coordinator, saved about 4 million bucks and been better off over all. By Jacks this is all Hamilton's fault. He traded off a group of perfect coaches for the Kiffins, cost us a bunch of money and all we needed was a new Defense Gear.

I think you guys are arguing apples and oranges here.

That is the real issue.

The fact that Kiffin & Co. was the staff last year means that people are saying "[Monte] Kiffin's COACHING ABILITY sucks!" when that's the argument that could have been made of ANY coaching staff that had been in place at Tennessee last year that had to deal with the same roster/injury issues

No, as it's been widely reported the reason Clawson failed was a lack of cooperation from the other coaches on staff, which trickled down to the players.

Stuff like that is just to keep message boards strring. Who really cares what he says, IF HE ACTUALLY SAID IT.

maybe but UT still held them to by far the lowest output all season (and that schedule had some pretty good teams on it)

We won the yardage battle and they won the game! Which would you rather win?
