Monte on Tennessee

I'm not trying to start anything, but why are you always on our site chiming in (at the most opportune time) to play devil's advocate?

i actually read the first page only.

i hate kiffin's guts, but it was a pretty well coached club last season.

crompton improved dramatically. the linebackers had injuries. wes brown played with no knees. you had walk ons playing on the o-line.

the coaching decision to not get closer for a better FG attempt against bama was stupid.

i would also say that the ucla game was not handled well. but, i think it kind of shocked kiffin to know how bad crompton was and from that experience began learning what crompton could and could not do.

but, generally speaking, tennessee didn't get beat because they were not prepared for their opponent. even against ole miss and va tech.

I didn't say what you said was wrong, nor did I disagree. I've just seen you on our site for the past 4 or 5 months, decided to join recently, and now am asking because I can post things.

I should restate what I said earlier...Why do you frequent our site so much?

I think the first version of that question was a little aggressive and I apologize. I've seen you say lots of things and most of the time you bring up a good point/interesting perspective.

IF Monte's defense was half as good as his reputation as a dc is we would have been undefeated last year. OVERRATED. Berry was a stud way before Monte, who is a good - but not great coach imo.

The guy that wrote that article is from the LA Times. Monte Kiffin is a hall of fame coach. We'll see how our new coaching staff can coach very soon... Nuff said.

in short, because i get news on florida from so many places that it has become more interesting to check out information and fan sites of schools that florida will play.

i used to frequent GVX, and still do, but this site has more topics of discussion. every board has its wackos and rational people and it takes time to determine one from the other.

i try to post something honestly (of course i am biased), and when i say something negative about tennessee i am being honest, not hateful (or at least i try to be).

the problem has been that not much regarding tennessee football has been positive and a lot has been negative, so topics and posts tend to not be full of sunshine.

but, when tennessee does good things, i will say so. i have said that i plan on sticking around at least until tennessee beats florida. that way, i can come here and take the abuse people are so ready to dish out and prove that i am not here just to antagonize.

but, i don't know when that will be (another statement that can be interpreted in a negative light)

I personally saw no upgrade from 3rd and Chavis.

If most coordinators were presented with the depth and injury issues we had last year, we wouldn't have been in the top 50 in defense, much less the top 20. People can hate Monte all they want, but he is one of the great defensive minds to ever coach. Don't kid yourselves.

Monte did not impress me at all last year.....I'm glad we have Wilcox

You guys kill me. None of us liked what happened (the way the kiffin's & co left), however, did you miss the defensive game we played against Florida, or Alabama? Wasn't the UF game supposed to be a blowout and we were all praying it wouldn't happen; even with the 10 pt loss we felt we had won because it proved all the naysayers wrong that we not only wouldn't get blown out, but flirted with a huge upset. Did you forget Urban making excuses for a win? How rare is that in college football? Was it Monte's fault the kicks against Alabama weren't made? Come'on, get real! It's the players who keep the guys from blocking the kick. (of course Lincoln's kick was too low to start with; it didn't come off of Monte's foot). Yes, we can all be outraged how Kiffin & co left, but be objective and give credit where due. Did we win all the rest of the games? No. And we certainly couldn't stop Ole Miss either. Do you REALLY think Chavis' defense would have yielded better results? Hey, I like Chavis but I don't believe his D would have been better than Monte's last year. This year will be another challenge but I feel our coaches will get the best out of who they have, and I think they will surprise some folks, however, I'm not holding my breath that we'll run the table either. My main point is be objective. GBO!:eek:k:

I have no idea what's happening. Who made these comments?.....
the folks in Tennessee failing to understand if UCLA can beat the Volunteers so easily the past two years, there's no way they can be considered in the same class as USC

Those comments weren't under the link given. Are they from the OP?

Either way, some of the dumber comments I've read in a while.

I saw it in the link, on the second page of the article near the end.

I guess you can call it defense. They played defense... through the offense. What does Monte Kiffin have to do with the offense sitting on the ball?

The clock was intentionally run out to get beat less. The game was a forfeit from the start. It's impressive Tennessee only lost by ten. Unfortunately, they also never had a chance to win. It was a milk the clock situation from start to finish.

Monte is one of the best DC's at any level of football...

If Monte hadn't had Eric Berry his defense wouldn't have been diddly. It showed several times throughout the year. His defense gave up how many to Ole Miss? 23 to Ohio, 28 to Memphis, 24 to Kentucky.

The whole Kiffin Klan right down to Mamma Kiffin can kiss my red neck.

I had some time with the College Gameday guys in LA a few months ago. I asked when they would say SOMETHING GOOD about TN ? And each of them asked me the same question......... Is TN over LK ?
I said yeah its pretty much a punch line at this point.
Kirk said, "TN will continue to get negative press as long as people react.......its the business", Lee just stared at me like he never heard anyone speak, Chris tried to provoke an emotional answer by adding "been a long time since you've seen the BCS..." and Desmond was kind and said "matter of time its still TN, but how long is up to UT".
Just thought I'd contribute. There was more said but only a 3-5 minute convo.

That's cool as hell. Wish I could've been there with ya.

How many times did eventual national champion Alabama find the end zone against his defense?

Is that real?

I'd like to see how they react if it happened at their alma mater. It's been like what, 6 months since Kiffin left?

Look how much money these big time programs produce. This wouldn't be a multimillionaire industry if people didn't care. Most people will be pissed when a coaching staff comes in and wastes a year. Those players learning those systems wasted time and filled their brain with useless junk.
