Monte on Tennessee

I have a feeling because it got posted on this board that the writer should have left his email off there lol.

I think I do need someone to read that article for me though. That man has to be the most pathetic excuse for a writer at a major newspaper in the country. I'd expect to see grammar problems in the KNS, but you'd think a market the size of Los Angeles would produce a better writer than that jackass. I don't believe we should feed the beast. Those who respond to him will very likely be the same people he is describing.

'Why you dadgum elitist Californie librul. I tell you we ain't got no learnins here in Tensee but we tryin ta reed yer etchins in thuh paper an' it jus ain't a workin. Can you city folk hep us? Pleez!'

They (The media) love to say our fans are still talking about Kiffin , but it seems it's in reguards to something said by Daddy , Brat or Captain Caveman. This is a perfect example. Somebody should mention how the USC staff can't stop talking about Tennessee. The only time I heard our coaches or former players say anything is when people ask them about Lane. I've heard the same answer from Manning and Dooley several times. Infact , other than an article about Lance Thompson , I haven't heard anyone talking about them. They spin it like they never bring him up. It's our coaches and former players showing up just to talk about Lane. Funny how that works.

Media keeps asking, they keep answering. I doubt Lane, Monte, or Ed will host a presser to bash Tennessee, but if they get questioned about something, it may not be the most pro-Vol response.

Trying to justify his son's mindset. It's bullshiz. We weren't beaten easily and nobody wins with Crompton at the helm playing like that.

Excuse making doesn't look good on Monte either. I'm not mad about it, but you can tell that he and and lane have developed this rationalization after some very weak brainstorming sessions.

Given the type of column written, I wouldn't be shocked if that's what was asked.

Given the type of column written, I'd say it has worked to perfection. We'll never know what was asked because it was printed that way for a reaction. Pure effect.

Yeah, it's not like Monte held Florida to 23 points as a 4 touchdown underdog. Oh, wait, he did.

the whole reason i posted this is to win a bet with somebody that u would reply to it so thank u for that:hi:. by the way, If Tebow doesnt fumble, its 30 points. If our offense didnt run the ball as well as they did, it would be more. How did your monte D do against an OHIO spread offense that was ranked 85th in total offense?

He's the kind of guy who will answer a question truthfully. If he was asked a question about how Tennessee compares to USC, given a common foe in UCLA, this is the kind of answer you'll get.
Given the type of column written, I wouldn't be
shocked if that's what was asked.

I hear you, and that may be the case, but, just like your kindergarten teacher said, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

It's still the class thing to do.

Ok gotta ask. Why are you glad to have Wilcox? He hasn't coached a game at UT yet but you hold last year against monte?

To me you have to take ut out of the equation. Compare Boise State vs. Tampa Bay. Or wait til this year is complete then see which one was better.
Just for clarification i'm not against Wilcox. I hope he'll do well here.

OK
and that all I have to say about that!!!

Is there a reason Monte and the author kept saying "down in Tennessee"?

Not to be a stickler but last time I checked a map (right before posting this) Los Angeles was further south than Knoxville. Why not say "over in tennessee", "to the right", or anything generally locationalizing but still mildly factual.

Also I don't think we can blame the Kiffin's for UT's losses to UCLA, it's not like they were the ones missing the tackle on the tight end or failing to score on the goal line, right? Shouldn't have fired Fulmer either though, he wasn't out there fail quarterbacking in '08.

Seriously, please stop using that argument to defend the Kiffins. Like any manager they take responsibilities for what their product does and doesn't do, even if they personally aren't involved. I've heard no one say Iowa's defensive coordinator sucked but happened to have players that could tackle, lucky guy. And you have all seemed more than happy enough for Fulmer not keeping his staff up to snuff. Can't pick your applications of the rules guys. They apply or they don't.

2006 (first year as DC for Boise)

WAC total D - 1st
WAC scoring D - 1st
NCAA total D - 14th
NCAA scoring D - 20th

2007

WAC total D - 1st
WAC scoring D - 1st
NCAA total D - 25th
NCAA scoring D - 25th

2008

WAC total D - 1st
WAC scoring D - 1st
NCAA total D - 20th
NCAA scoring D - 3rd

2009

WAC total D - 1st
WAC scoring D - 1st
NCAA total D - 14th
NCAA scoring D - 14th

UT 2009 (Monte's only college data)

NCAA total D - 22nd
NCAA scoring D - 38th

For what it's worth...

Edit: Figured I'd add a link for the 2009 stats: NCAA Stats
So you include stats for a team playing in the WAC but not for a team that played in the NFC South?

They try to read this down in Tennessee, and I suspect they will have to find a relative out of state to read it to them, they'll probably tell you Lane has only one fan. His dad.

Average IQ Score by State

looks like California is even dumber than old Tennessee. Where do these idiots get off on this. California is arguably the dumbest state in America. Just because you have some ultra-liberal organizations; who have given california colleges high ratings, because they are ultra-liberal, means nothing. By any measure I could find Tennessee is a smarter state than cali.

Yet the response from our coaches and former players talk about either not knowing Lane , or saying I'd have a short conversation with him. But in this case Old Man Winter has to put down Tennessee. Not like it's the first time and won't be the last.

The old man has been quiet since the move. He spoke highly of Tennessee. What is his motive? Good coach or not, he is loosing what little respect he had. By you old buzzard! GBO!!!

Here we go again.... Monte was great in his day in the NFL where you can pay for players (of course you can at USC too, well you could)... But there is a huge diffrence between that level and this level.... I will give old man comb over his due in the pros, but he hasn't done squat at this level.... He is basically a trophy for LK to recruit with.... He may blow it out of the water this years aqs long as he has PC recruits (I doubt it, but he might)....

I don't think he kept Berry from getting the HT, but he sure didn't help him get it....

I use to have some respect for Monte. Now I'm starting to wonder if father like son doesn't apply here.
