I read an article in the Birmingham News today that was interesting. Gene Chizik was a unpaid disciple of Monte earlier in his career and runs the same defense (obviously not very sucessful at Iowa State). The gist of the article was that once they have their defense(s) in place at Auburn and UT, they would prove to Urban Meyer and his imitators why that particular offense isn't run in the pros.

BTW, I'm not ready to write off Chizik just yet. He was a heck of an assistant coach and as someone earlier pointed out Iowa St. is a hard place to win. The Bammers are laughing their heads off down here. I hope Chizik does well as we need Au as a buffer against Bama.

If he can beat the Bammer he's ok in my book...
.....and hopefully get his share if the high school recruits in Alabama. CLK has committed to keeping Saban out of Tennessee. Hopefully, Nutt can keep the b***tard out of Mississippi.

LOL.

I am sorry. I do not disagree with anything you said, but when you said "we need AU as a buffer against Alabama," my brain immediately started thinking of AU as Eastern Europe being a buffer zone during the Cold War.

They'll be crying in their milk in a year or two, when Saban decides he's had enough of the trailer trash and B'ar worshipers. Either that, or he'll get wind of the next NCAA investigation and get out of town quick.

Ditto.

I'll admit to not knowing much about Chizik (or the Iowa St. program in general) but by the numbers, his D this year is much worse than his O: 112 to 42 in yd standings.

Some us are old enough to remember when Auburn (and the rest of the SEC) was the whipping boy of Bama. We never want to return to those days.

I made this point in another thread. You're right! If this hire is as bad as it looks, then Saban will not have any real competition for the Alabama in-state talent.

I agree with rockydoc. I root against Bama and LSU and thus favor Auburn by default. They seem to have a better, less obnoxious/annoying fanbase too.
