Monte Kiffin comments.

Monte Kiffin! Isn’t he the guy whose defense couldn’t stop a 10 yard hook route on 3rd down?

Terrible thing to say after his kind comment about his brief experience in Knoxville.
Monte matched up well against pro style offenses hence Alabama and Georgia. He just couldn’t stop a spread.

Monte's defense was fantastic against the pro set, horrible against the spread.

Wow, Monte is still alive!

Google... he's 81. He looks much older. Is "analyst" code for retirement fund?

Montes D was spectacular vs pro style offenses. Nearly took down Bama holding them to 13pts at home, a team that went undefeated for natty. UGA never crossed out 40YL, only scoring on defense ST and a looking FG. Unreal actually. Then there were the spread offenses ... :-o. .... Dexter McCluster may still be running around Oxford!

Just another way Lane let his dad down. Selfish son, selfish man, selfish coach.

Spin answer to make the locals feel good. He’s only saying it because Lane was set up to fail at USC and here he had opportunity.

It was reported Monte tried to talk Lane out of going in 2010 but Lane listened to Ed O and his heart.......what could go wrong there?

Monte's 2009 defense was far inferior to Chavis's 2008 defense. It should not have been inferior. He misused Berry.

I lived in Tampa while Kiffin was coaching here. Lane and Monte were on my flight down to Clearwater the day Bryce brown committed. I was standing on the curb waiting for my ride with my Tennessee hat on. Monte saw my hat and ran up to me to talk UT football, he shook my hand and said “did you see who we got today”? I said Bryce brown. He said how did you find out, he committed while we were on the flight and I just found out. I said we are serious about our football in Tennessee. We talked a few more minutes about football and Lane walks up. Monte tells him I’m a fan, I’m also wearing my hat. Lane doesn’t say a word just staring at his dad like a petulant child and says come on dad mom is in the car waiting for us. He kept interrupting like a child and never said a word to me. Monte looked at me almost to apologize for his sons actions and said he had to go. Monte is alright with me, great guy but his son is a garbage human being.

I could be naive but at the time of the disaster Monte seemed like he genuinely felt bad about how that went down. He'll always be a legend here as he was the one that made the gas pumper comment that has been a great source of pleasure during gamecock week.

I wonder if Monte was able to attend the memorial for Majors. I always heard they were good friends

I am pretty sure Lane felt a few pangs of regret Saturday night knowing he will most likely never have a fan base as passionate as ours backing him in a game. I know Heupel appreciates what a great asset that is for a coach and team.

Montes Tampa Two definitely worked better against Pro style offenses. Hence thats all it had ever been used for. That game with McCluster shredding us was an example of him having no clue of the modern college game of how to adjust.
The McCluster game? Their OTs were holding play after play but not called. Much easier to run wide when that happens.
