will be great for the Vols--but I'm sure he
will find the college game frustrating, maybe even very frustrating. As he points out in the piece, there are lots of time and practice restrictions at the college level--you can't work with the kids even close to year-round. Beyond that, college kids are young and mistake prone--and while Monte obviously will coach them up a lot, there is a huge difference between coaching a 25 year-old pro player who's been playing LB at a high level (meaning, say, major college and pros) for 7 years as opposed to, say, a 19-year-old freshman or soph who doesn't understand his defensive responsibilities.
There will be times--this fall, probably--when Monte will have to explain why his UT*defense gave up 30 points and lost a game. I just hope those days are rare--and in the end I've no doubt that the new staff will do excellent things for this program. I'm excited--but also trying to be realistic.
