Montana's Offense

No they don't. They run a spread similar to Oregon's.

Perhaps you should learn the first thing about your opponent before predicting a 50 point win.

Just sayin...

Hey Everett. Your fellow Grizzer from Bothell here.

DJ has made it his mission to poke his finger in any and all Montana posts. Once you realize that, he gets to be kinda funny.

Just roll with him.

Yeah, I noticed him racking up the posts in the "Make fun of Montana" and Why UT will beat Montana" threads. I've got no issues with him, but the traditional option?? Really?? C'mon, watch 9 seconds of video and you know that's wrong.

Now you've gone and done it...he's good for another 20 posts.

I hoping this is the last year we see threads like this. We should not be concerned about playing freaking Montana!

The final will be about 38 - 13. The freshman lb. will get a good test in this game. The assignments will need to be played right or the secondary will have to cover up for them. Johnson (MLB) will be the biggest key to this game, making the right calls and all. When the game is over Brewer and Austin should lead in total tackles. If not something will definatly be wrong. It should be intersting to watch A.J. and Maggitt with there athletic ability to see how they run and pursue. I just wish it was this sat. and not the week after. GBO & BUCK FAMA too!!!

I don’t know why some of you are describing Montana’s offense as option-based. To reiterate one Montana observer, they run “an Oregon version of the spread with an up tempo style of play calling, not quite as quick as Oregon but still faster than what most people are used to.” Granted, they don’t have the caliber of athletes that Oregon fields, but their run/pass ratio last year was, if anything, much more balanced than Oregon’s. Out of 760 total plays, Montana ran the ball 377 times and threw it 383 times, amassing 1539 yds. rushing and 2569 yds. passing (The Sports Network - Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) - Big Sky). This is hardly the heavily rushing-skewed ratio that you would expect from a conventional veer, wishbone or option-based offense of any type. By contrast, Oregon ran the ball 629 times and threw it on 395 plays, totaling 3721 yds. rushing and 3178 yds. passing (Oregon Ducks 2010 Statistics - Team and Player Stats - College Football - ESPN).

most people barely know the difference between a split end and a tight end, let alone offensive schemes. the fashion threads here are more informed than the football ones.

I have a feeling this game will not be like some are predicting. I think that our offense will win the game in the first half, while the defense will dominate the second half. Throw in some garbage points at the end of the game and...51-28.

I don't think there is any chance that we score 50+, especially not in our first game. We put up exactly 50 on UTM last year and Montana would clean their clock. I'm thinking closer to 38-14 or 41-17

This years offense is light years ahead of last years O lead by Simms. Bray is gonna put up 4 or 5 touchdowns in the first half alone, plus we get a score on defense... mop up time we put in another 2 or 3 touches. I say we hit 50, not much more though

Can you imagine the meltdown if its a close game going into the 4th. I'd be drinking myself into a coma if its 21-17 in the 4th. We have had a history of close games recently with opponents we should have blown out of the water, N. Illinois, Air Force, Ohio, and (hate to even bring it up) Wyoming. That being said I think our o-line will wear them down, but the first half may be close with us up 21-10. I still say we win going away.

According to many, Montana couldn't score even if we didn't put our Defense on the field.

Do you agree that 38-14 sounds so much worse than 41-17?

I would bet a lot of those are Montana fans. We saw two power running style QB's last year struggle with adapting to the new system, only to have both of them graduate and then not have a clear starter this year with any real experience.

The one area my fingers are crossed is QB play for Montana.
