I've read that their o line is huge and athletic. They run an option offense. I'm wondering if anyone thinks they will give us trouble. I remember Air Force almost beat us with the option a few years ago. Hopefully the talent advantage and our improved coaching will shut them down.

Agree with us having the trouble in the past with the option, notably USAF, but this is a completely different defense with a different defensive strategy. Not sure how equipped we are now to handle the option, but it couldnt be worse than how we have done in the past imo.

At the end of the day, its still montana. There should be no way that their oline should be more powerful or athletic than ours. Especially with Martin and Walls back.

Their O-Line is huge but they're not very athletic. If they were then they wouldn't be playing for Montana. Our O-Line is huge too and very athletic.

I'm sure CJW is much better at defending the spread than Monte or Chavis jmo

I was thinking the same thing...

I know AF gave us some problems and it seems we have traditionally had issues defending this kind of offense. I could be wrong but I think Wilcox is more familiar with defending it.

I seem to be one of the few on here that think Wilcox will turn out to be an excellent DC. It's hard to judge this staff in general from last year based on stats and W's, but given the talent they were working with I think we have got some really good coaches.

I'm anxious to see everything come together once the coaches get the players they are wanting. It's already starting to happen, but we are certainly on the up & up.

I played DE in HS and loved teams that ran the option. That QB got racked every time and started to pitch it early and hit the ground. Get LBs to take dive and CB and S got pitch pretty easy to shut it down if ya know what your doing.

You have to be able to read the defense to run the option, I bet our defense will be hard to read.

Wilcox has faced Oregon's offense three times in the past four years. I think he'll be alright against Montana's option...

Their offensive line is actually bigger then ours I believe. However, I doubt they are quite as athletic.

Although many believe this will be a pushover, Montana is going to show up ready to play.

UT needs to send a message in this opener. I would love to see a shutout from our defense.

No... this game will not even be remotely close.

This! I know everyone worries about our youth and inexperience but Montana will not be able to keep up with the pure athletes that we have!! IMO this game will show what a lot of our freshmen and sophomores can really do.

Pure Athletes get eaten up by good option teams. We need disciplined athletes that play their responsibilities. Wilcox has seen a lot of spread/option based offenses @ Boise so I think we will be prepared. At the end of the day its the first game of the year, we need to set the tone early and crush any hopes of a upset. You do this by punching them in the face defensively and scoring touchdowns. I know....obvious...but am I wrong?

I can't believe that their OL is bigger than ours.

we go:
6'5 305lbs Thomas
6'2 309lbs Bullard
6'3 308lbs Stone
6'5 330lbs Fulton
6'6 324lbs James

That is a huge OL imo. All sizes from UTsports.com

If everyone is disciplined enough to stay in position and cover their responsibilities, they can defend against the option. Stating the obvious.
