Monken vs. Pruitt Week 3 preview

Week 3 will be a matchup of Monken’s Air Raid and Pruitt’s split safety coverage.

2020 preview: Todd Monken's Air Raid versus Jeremy Pruitt's split safety coverage

Very nice write up. Love the chess match of Coordinators. Defensively we have good scheme and players. Taylor and Thompson both play good man coverage. Thompson plays beautiful zone. George is another physical option at CB. But the athletic LBs and our veteran D'line is what will cause havoc. You can scheme and scheme football will always come down to beating the man in front of you. Not a lot of teams are going to be able to overwhelm our defense. None actually imo

I would think UTs defense would play faster than Georgia's offense this year.. Being they have a new Oline and QB and the way Covid has affected practices..

Will be interesting to see how good this new OC is for uga. Anyone know much about him? Anything to be worried about here?

I am not sure how much time the QB is going to have. Plus our speed is much better on Defense.

Pass rush will be our biggest weakness on defense. I feel confident everywhere else

Just read where one of their WR went down with a knee injury in practice Thursday. I'm not sure sure what impact he has to their offense.

Call these spread offenses whatever you want, they are designed to put a lot of pressure on the defensive secondary. To me the key to stopping or at least slow down this type of offense is great down field coverage AND a fast pass rush, flushing the QB out of the pocket hopefully to his off-side read.

Having a really good up the middle push causing the QB to decide an escape route is paramount, while the DE stays home.

My two cents anyway . . .

I don't think they are, especially with all the COVID stuff. You might see some hybrid concepts with what they were already doing but there is not going to be time to completely switch up.
Okay that makes sense. It would be weird if they went full gimmicky air raid with all those backs and linemen.

Personally don't really understand the hire of Monken by UGA. Air raid works in the SEC if you can score a ton early and then either keep pouring it on or have the defense to keep the opponent from scoring.

With our secondary, if we can put any amount of pressure on the new QB we should disrupt enough to keep them off the field.

If a guy wanted to learn the basic details of football and stuff like this, what are some good resources? This seems advanced, but I would love to understand more of the X's and O's.

did not realize uga was going air raid.
Not that UGA doesn't have plenty of talent on offense, but they lost a ton of talent on OL, and with new coordinator, new QB, and mostly new OL, I personally think it's not a slam dunk that they're the "class of the east". We've all seen how lack of OL cohesiveness can add to confusion and missed assignments.

If what you say is true, this will be a BIG weakness. For me, in this time of pass happy offense and liberal protection for QBs and receivers, you MUST be able to pressure the QB, otherwise you will be eaten alive.

Your second sentence holds true for not only SEC teams, but for all teams......

Who do you think is the east "class"? I fear we may have to think FLA. God!! I hope not. But I like you think Ga may be in for a letdown, maybe short lived but maybe a year or two.
