Too bad we couldn't score any runs the last two games of the series. Monica shut out Arizona for the first 18 innings pitching her heart out but got no run support. Too bad for her. Hopefully she do well in the team USA tryouts next week. We will miss you Monica. :cray:

I've watched her pitch several times, she pitches like Clemens...every pitch she throws it's all shes got. If she was male she'd be pitching for very big $ next year.

She just couldn't get any help from her teammates hitting the ball, no telling how many runners were left in scoring position or when the bases were loaded.

If TN could hit a change-up there would have been no need for the game last night.

Or lay down a frickin' bunt. They haven't been taught how to do this the right way - they're all punching at it and don't square their bats. Drove me nuts watching that.

Still, a very admirable season for the Vol softballers - they should hold their heads high.

They stranded 25 runners in the last two games.
everytime a batter came up to the plate with runners in scorring position, they almost had a look of "oh sh-t" on their face.......and then they promptly struck out. nice.

Thanks Monica for choosing UT, I feel terrible we couldn't step and deliver her a championship.

Looks like Ralph needs to get one of those Fred McGriff videos on bunting.

As I said before, Monica can't score runs via her pitching. She did all she could do. There never should have been a Game 3. Regardless, UTLV, hold your heads high...what an awesome season. Monica...you do not realize how much you are appreciated. You are absolutely awesome. Good luck in your future endevours...that goes to the 3 seniors. Thank you for choosing UT Vols.

I believe the coaches just tinkered with the lineup way to much. They won the first game and you never saw that lineup again. They over analyze way to much. Weekley said they studied video for 1.5 hours on how to hit a change up then went out and practiced for an hour. I believe the team was not allowed to swing at a change up during the regular season unless they had 2 strikes on them. If so what a stupid rule. Surely he knows you never bunt on first pitch when a girl has a rise ball it is the hardest pitch to get on the ground. The Lady Vols should be national champions if the coach would just have gotten out of the way. Put the athletes on the field and let them play don't play stupid mind games.

While it would certainly be pretty presumptuous of me to criticize the coaches in a sport that I've now watched exactly four times, it certainly didn't seem like the Lady Vols did enough to try to advance the runners when they got them. What really stood out to me was not the times when they left the bases loaded; that just happens when the other pitcher's as good as Mowett. What left me scratching my head were all the times they'd have a runner on first with zero or one out and do nothing to advance her. It seemed like they'd repeatedly get the leadoff hitter on, and then suddenly there'd be two outs and she'd still be standing there at first.

I have heard that 25 or 26 runners were left on base in the last two games.

Our hitters and baserunners have the ability of taking a bad situation and making it immediately worse.

Softball bats are constructed differently from aluminum baseball bats, and the ball they're hitting is quite a bit different. Obviously situations call for different strategy.

Absurd "logic" top to bottom, and this goes up there with anything the atrocious Jessica Mendoza had to say the last two weeks.

A change-up in softball is basically a junk pitch because of the slow motion and the erratic bat control. It looks enticing and is nearly always fouled off or hit weakly in the infield. I have no problem with limiting when to actually swing at one.

As for a riser, it's actually the easiest to get on the ground because of how little side-to-side movement it gets. A batter who has the bat in the proper position can simply adjust for height and drop it right onto the ground and get moving. It's the easiest to make consistent contact; with any pitch that goes horizontal, there's a much greater chance to either catch it with the handle (most likely fouling off or popping up) or poke at it (thus pushing it foul or otherwise making poor contact).
