Monday Practice Thread: UTEP week

A lot of wasted racket that found his teams not developing either. It all sounded good if that's what you want to hear or see.

I hope Pruitt is all business. We need a football coach instead of a car salesman.
Thats what I initially took from the practices which I liked. It just seems everything is ho hum. Probably just for the cameras.

Watching Jeremy Pruitt's weekly Monday press conference, cannot figure out why is Pruitt so low, lack of energy, mundane.....i almost slept listening to him.

Do you feel the same or am I in coma ?
He has calm, “country boy” demeanor. Speaks like this every time I’ve ever heard him speak. Got no problem with it. I’m more interested in what he says than how he says it.

The game is in Knoxville not Charleston

You do know how big this thing is don’t you ? It will make landfall here on Thursday night , early Friday morning . By gametime on Saturday you could very easily being seeing effects of it . I wonder if we have ever had three games in a row with weather delays ?

Two minutes..its all I need.

From all the reports and videos I have seen is that his practices are ran much more hands on. Instead of listening and dancing around to the music players are being coached. Now have they came out sluggish or whatever the first two games? Yes. Although WV they were shifting OL players trying to find some sort of package that worked. ETSU was much the same. Starting center went out mid week. I really hope we get this game in with UTEP. We will likely need it to get to 6*6. Not sure if many caught CJP's post game press conf where the reporter asked what the difference was after the rain delay coming out? He said well our S&C guys really got them going. This is a striking difference in the CBJ approach in that the team took on his high/low persona. The team really fed off him at times. Instead of being cool and calm his head would explode and then the team would start to fall apart. Time will tell who ends up with the better overall record at UT. It does appear at this point though that the kids are being coached instead of yelled at though.

Love him or hate him at least CBJ's practices had energy to them. The CJP's practices, from what little we see of them, seem pretty lethargic. Possible this has been spillingover to the games where the team seems pretty low energy..

Absolutely, 100% wrong. According to every person I’ve heard talk about the differences in their practices, the main difference is this....Pruitt and his staff are intensely coaching very physical practices which include a lot of one on one instruction. Additionally, EVERY player gets reps which leads to player development, something completely foreign and evidently unimportant to Lyle.

We all know Jones’ practices included music blaring and Lyle calling out players on a microphone that could be heard throughout about 1/2 of campus. Pruitt and company obviously aren’t interested in those type of distractions, that type of media attention for doing something “unique” with their practices. They’re interested in coaching up and developing their players and making sure the players give them their undivided attention.

If you interpret that as “lethargic” and low energy, that misinterpretation and misunderstanding of what is going on is on you.

I'm fine with the way it is now.

I've always attributed it to fatigue. Maybe he saves his energy for his guys. He could stand to lose some weight to boost that energy, though. Overweight and stress are not good markers for longevity. Go Vols.

The difference between having a cheerleader for a coach, and a real coach teaching the kids fundamentals

What an enormous success that turned out to be. (Blue font)

After all the comments that Butch didn't develop the players, why would anyone on here complain because Pruitt is? Pruitt is all football, and I believe he knows what it takes to win.

I think thats just his personality as a coach. He's not gonna be the guy at the podium or on a 2 min practice clip that excites the fans by being overly energetic or "rah, rah". I don't think that idea even crosses his mind as something that is required of him to be a good coach. And in reality it isn't. It may come off as boring and uninspiring to some fans but its really irrelevant if the goal is winning and he's able to do that.

I would be careful putting too much into a short practice clip from the sense that "ho hum" in an PC and a short video means thats the way his practices and team meetings operate.

And even that isn't very interesting to me. He's speaking to the media because he's required to. Im not even sure given his approach that he has a target for his comments other than I have to fill this requirement so I can get back to coaching. Some coaches like and even want that platform to explain why things are bad, why things are good or how they are better than they look in order to frame a perception. He doesn't come off as one of those.

He may or may not pull this off in the grand scheme of things but his approach or method to explaining what is or isn't happening wont define it, no different than Jones or any other UT coach past or future.

I think we see what they want us to see.
