Momentum. UF had it, UT is bleeding it

There's talk now in Gator circles of going after Heupel....

Funny...

If UF is to start (another) coaching search, I can almost foresee this one to be like the one that landed us Pruitt.

Your fan base is done with mediocre hires and if you AD trots out the UF version of Sciano, your base will riot and you'll end up doing the same thing Currie did in running all over the country offering everyone a deal.

Your next hire better be so orgasmic that even Spurrier feels giddy.

Yup. No untested coaches at this level. Will have to be a proven commodity.

Who would be on the UF coaching list? Off the top of my head:

1) Lane Kiffin
2) Alex Golesh
3) Rhett Lashlee
4) Jamey Chadwell
5) Shane Beamer
6) Eli Drinkowitz.

I'm not sure UF fans would be happy with anyone on that list other than Kiffin or Beamer. I think Kiffin stays at Ole Miss and Beamer probably doesn't fit at UF. Maybe Drink works.

FU (a.k.a. Florida) has been in slow decline since Urban Meyer left. It's a place where winning coaches end their career's upward trajectory. As @RandomUTfan said in the UCLA thread, FU's "issues go far deeper than the head coach."

If Jedd Fisch can get Washington into the playoff picture, I would expect UF to go after him. Former Gator, GA'd under Spurrier. I imagine most UF fans would get behind that pretty well as long as he is successful this year. He got AZ to 10 wins his last year there too.

Lashlee has all of Spurriers dislikeable qualities and none of the charm. He’s a first rate douche and would either be highly successful or a nuclear bomb.

UF probably shouldn't be in this situation as a program, but it appears to be a program where it matters a ton who the coach is. It's more like Alabama or Tennessee than Ohio St or LSU in that regard.

I would think that given location, resources, etc. a bad coach could still do pretty well there, but poor coaches are mediocre at best there. It seems like it takes a fantastic coach, like Spurrier or Urban, to get the most out of that program. Even Mullen, who was really successful at Miss St prior to that, didn't work out there.

We all saw Golesh calling plays in Knoxville 2022. Hyatt lit up Saban for 5 TD's, but guess who was calling the plays (Josh and Alex as a team, but mostly Alex).

If I was an AD, at Bama or Florida right now, the short list would be in my desk drawer. I'd have Golesh on the top. And that scares me as a Tenn alum. Kiffin - not a bad coach, but he seems like there is always a game or two where he just can't get over the hump. Plus it's a red flag when, as an assistant, the head coach won't let him on the bus. He's a good x and o guy, but there seems to be a threshold he can't quite get over. And (maybe legitimately) he threw the Ole Miss fan base under the bus for it for not being able to come up with enough NIL money. That seemed to me to be a whine, and I think it also hurts in recruiting when recruits hear the coach saying the fan base can't sustain the "salary" you desire. NIL has really complicated this whole thing.

Anyway, in my mind Golesh will be a hot commodity in the off season.

Beamer. Yuck. Too bland.

Need some energy back in Gainesville. Kiffin or Golesh make the most sense.
