Mobile Phone Carrier Help

Verizon had a sale and I was able to get the Moto z play for basically free (minus the $50 upgrade fee). I had the option of the Samsung 7 edge for $15/mo, but I was leery of the fragility of that screen.

So far, this phone seems great. The screen is very bright and crisp, and the turbo charge is pretty amazing.

Thanks for all the help.

Keep us informed about that phone. I am considering an upgrade too and was contemplating that Moto Z. I was concerned about the edge for the same reason. I got the offer of the $15/month via text a day or two ago and almost went and did it but because of that screen I decided not to.

The salesperson at Verizon confirmed my suspicion, saying it was one of their most "fragile" phones with a lot of damage calls.

So far, very happy with the new phone. I really have no complaints at all. The fingerprint sensor is very accurate, the voice commands have worked well, the screen is awesome, the camera is amazing, and the HD voice clarity is unbelievable. I'm really happy to have found a "free" phone that has worked great.

Ok KD, headed to Verizon. Got an email last night where I can upgrade for free. Pixle or S7 (not the edge)?

Did you see my post about call quality on Google Fi, DRR? :hi:

I've never had any problems. It's working off 3 cell companies and has wifi calling. No worries on quality. On occasion data isn't the quickest switching between wifi and cell data. Big deal, wait another 10-20 seconds.

If you want to join Fi, let me know. I can invite you and we both get $20.

FYI, my bill just hit yesterday. It was $33.22. That includes a trip to the Dominican which had service. I didn't make any calls but I used data while I was down there. (Data is always $10/gig, calls in other countries are usually $0.20/min) The resort's wifi typically faded as you got near the ocean.

If you use a lot of data (more than 2 or 3 gigs) I'd recommend Cricket. If you use more data and travel internationally often, I'd recommend TMo. My buddy's TMo phone was pulling data in the Dominican without problem as well (most likely same contracted services).

Excellent! I will be switching in March, after the Verizon talon lets loose of me. I'm assuming that I shouldn't have much trouble moving my number to Fi, as from what I've seen that could take up to 24 hours, but usually takes about 15-30 minutes. Anyone you know had any issues with that?

I ported my number to Fi. Went like any other port. I had a temp # on my phone to start. There will be an hour or two that text and calls might not work 100% as the cell record is transferred over.

And although Fi claims to only work with Nexus and Pixel phones....That isn't exactly the case. People have all kinds of phones running on there. I may be getting a Moto X for my mom and putting it on FI.

can either of you expand on Fi, what it is and how it works....
I did read a quick review on line, but not sure if my 1phone 6 would work on it

I think it can but it's not officially supported and you will have to do some work around. You would have to research that. It's officially only for Nexus and Google Pixel phones.

Fi is a phone carrier. $20 for talk and text, $10 per gig. They work on TMo, Sprint, and USCellular towers. Google runs the show. No contracts. You essentially pay less and have 3 networks to use. If you are a heavy cell data user, FI is not your best choice.

Fwiw I love my Pixel. I'm still on Verizon unlimited so I'm really no help on carriers
