Mo.Paper: TN on Upset Alert

The good thing about all this uncertainty about this game, and with Mizzu's surprising performance against BYU, is that if TN does win, this will turnout to be a nice accomplishment for CBJ and the team to get this road win under these conditions.

I'm not gonna be shocked if we lose. Two weeks ago I had this one penciled as a win.

I'm with you girl. That D can be scary. But give debord 15-18 plays to script, and UT can have at least 2 drives that put up points. Now if he can script the rest of the game.... hehe.

But I agree. Good post!

You're not alone. I think a lot of folks see the Pinkel thing as kind of a wildcard.

Dead on Freak! But I think with the way we play on the road, our team will be focused and bring it to them. They have been living in the shadow of a team that isn't in the same class as the University Of Tennessee. We have this but then again, I could be wrong....

this game worried me in the pre season. they play good defense, and that can be enough. it's on the road, and while we've done ok on the road this year, at least in regards to the lights being too bright, we haven't pulled out the W's.

So, now we're headed in to this with it being Pinkel's last home game...perfect.

i don't think this game sets up for us, i think it's a bad match up for our offense against their defense. and i'm not sold on our defense. i see this being a close game, and i think they have the defense that can force our offense in to mistakes in the passing game. i'm not sure we'll do the same.

this game has me more nervous than i was originally.

If UT doesn't turn the ball over then they should win by about what the line suggests. UT has the better special teams and offense. Don't help Mizzou out (turnovers, special teams or defensive tds) and they should win. Mizzou will play with emotion, but if UT gets them down then they need to step on their throat. Mizzou's offense isn't built to come from behind. It's atrocious.

The only ones that are going to be upset Saturday night are the Missouri fans and players, because they are still going to get beat.

I agree. The only way Mizz wins is if Tn gives them the game with turnovers. If Tn gets a good lead, I don't think Mizz has what it takes to come back either.

I don't want to see any conservative play calling by DeBord. We come out, get a lead and put our foot on their throat for 60 minutes.

Depends on what Butch comes out after half time. If we are up early, and we play too conservative we might end up losing.

If we play 4 quarters (coaches and players) we win this one.

Vols win...no upset this week. We will not look past a team that has beaten us three years in a row and in two of those years a win would have made us bowl eligible. Time to put them in the rear-view mirror with the cocks and get this back to a two horse race in the east for the foreseeable future.

Yes it would. I fully expect their D to look like the '85 Bears and for the light to come on for freshman QB Lock so that he immediately puts himself in the early discussions for the 2016 Heisman race. Yes......I, like you, continue to suffer from Battered Vol Syndrome.

LMAO! I fully understand the feeling. What is so funny and sad at the same time is its TRUE!

This game has worried me since I first saw it on the schedule! :rtfm:

What if we score early and go up 14-0??? :yikes:

KB there hasn't been a "safe space" for Vol fans in a long time. I also fear the worst for this game.

Hope the Vols put those fears to rest Saturday!

Me, too brother. This is one of those games that Tennessee absolutely wins if we're truly "back"....and I don't say this to imply that we've not progressed a great deal as a program. You know what I mean.

The way I see it is we've been playing better on the road lately then at home. I think we're going to get it done 20-10 with Dobbs running for several yards! And a big special teams play by Evan berry!

Mizzou is similar to SCAR-- inferior talent, but scrappy, fueled by emotion and looking for an upset. Let's hope the Vols learned from the SCAR game, come prepared and focused, play with intensity and leave with the win. If they don't, it will be hugely disappointing.

Here's an article by the local Mizzu beat writer analyzing Saturday's game I thought I'd share with VN.

Also, I thought it was interesting that he hints at a possible upset.

:eek:hmy::blink::no:

Full article at the link below:

Football scouting report: Tennessee - Columbia Daily Tribune | Columbia Missouri: Tiger Tidings

Plus, here is a commentator discussing the betting odds that not only picks Mizzu to cover but to get the outright upset...

Writer didn't take into account that the Vols will be playing on a serviceable playing surface for the first time in weeks. Look for the Vols speed to show back up this weekend.

It's the Mizzou Senior day.

It's their last home game.

It's the last home game forever for their Head Coach.

Their Head Coach is very much loved and respected and will be badly missed after so many years there.

Their fans and players will be as jacked up with emotion and determination as they've ever been.

They will come out 100% expecting to get the Win and very confident after their big Win over BYU.

All of this sets up as a huge trap game for us.

Our D will have to be focused and mistake free and try their best to get us a turnover or 2.

Our O will have to be 100% totally focused and our O line will need their mean streak to open some holes for our run game.

We must protect Dobbs and give him time to throw perfect passes and our WR's and TE's need to focus and take those balls out of the air.

Right now I see all of this as a total toss up game.

I think our Special Teams will have to make some big plays and that just could be the difference to get our WIN.

Tennessee WINS by 3 points.

I hope, LOL!
