Tell that to some of the engineers with degrees from Purdue that are involved with NASCAR.

Not referring to you but the article.
Yeah Ryan Newman is your base level NASCAR guy. Compare Ivy League NHL players per capita if that's your game

This list is very surprising to me. Sure NFL being #1 isn't exactly a shock but if I had to guess the popularity of US sports, from my perspective across the pond (by using news outlets I read on the net (ESPN, Sporting News, SI, USA Today) , radio shows I listen to (The Herd, Mike and Mike, Hangtime Podcast, Stephen A and Ryan Rucco) and the eye test of attendance at games I watch) it would look like this:

1. NFL
2. NBA
3. NCAAFB
4. MLB
5. NHL
6. Soccer
7. Nascar
8. NCAABB
9. Golf
10. Tennis

Personally my list goes:

1. NFL
2. NCAAFB
3. NBA
4. MLB
5. NHL
6. NCAABB
7. Nascar
8. Soccer
9. Tennis
10. Golf

Looks like the Univ of Alabama-Huntsville is the only school in the south that plays varsity hockey. Almost nobody outside the midwest and northeast does.
